high speed question
since updating my kaspersky internet security to the 2009 version
my speeds have really shot up , is this good for 20 meg service
some test have been even faster
Thu, 11 Sep 2008 18:28:06 UTC
Test 1: 1024K took 16 ms = 64000 KB/sec, approx 527360 Kbps, 515 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1154 ms = 887.3 KB/sec, approx 7311 Kbps, 7.14 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 2699 ms = 379.4 KB/sec, approx 3126 Kbps, 3.05 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 3120 ms = 656.4 KB/sec, approx 5409 Kbps, 5.28 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 135802 Kbps, 132.62 Mbps

Re: high speed question
No that is actually quite bad for the 20Mbit service. you should be getting speeds of over 10Mbps
But then speedtests aren't the most reliable of things

------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you tried going to this link to check your speeds http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/
click on blueyondergames>demos>then click on at least 2 large files around 400/500 mb and save them to your desktop, and then wait a couple of minutes then write down the transfer rates on the files that are running> times them by 8 and you will get a truer download speed.
i.e : 250kbps X 8 = 2MB, 500kbps X 8 = 4MB, 1250kbps X 8 = 10MB, 2500kbps X 8 = 20MB

Re: high speed question
Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem. The should be a sticker on the bottom saying what model.
Open a browser and in the address bar put> 192.168.100.1 password and username are both root if required.
What I want you to post is the Downstream and the Upstream plus what model the modem is for me thanks.
DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also are you XP or Vista

Re: high speed question
That looks to be spot on for a EX-Telewest connection, none of the power levels are out.
Can you see anything else in there that resembles the following figures at all.
1024000 and 512 this is 10mb
2048000 and 768 this is 20mb

Doesn't 891KB/s + 673KB/s equal 1564KB/s or 1.564MB/s. According to google calculator the max 20Mb/s (20480000 bits/sec) = 2.44140625 MBytes/s so you're running just under 1MB/s down from the maximum. As for speedtest.net and Speedtest from this site, I haven't got a clue why you're getting results like 'em.

Looks like the first line is cached, then it's settled down with the next 3 lines being the realistic results

no my average is 17739 and 683 . my best figures have been 97543 and 732, so how does that rate the download figures look as if they are
way down below 10mb the upload do not seam to bad

If the figures you have highlight are the maxium ones , i know you can execpt to get to that all the time as they do only say up to 20mb in the
