re: Google Launches Internet Browser - Chrome
Apparently this browser doesn't work with the current version of Java, however it works with Java 6 update 10(beta) plugin.

as safe as saving your passwords in the first place (which I'd never recommend)

That Java plugin crashes firefox for me so i had to uninstall it. Obviously Google Chrome needs alot of work and certain website need to be fixed to work with it before its ready for all round use.

Looks good so far - browsing in Chrome running on an XP VM
difficult to gauge speed in a contrived environment like this, but will try on my Vista laptop tmrw.

Haven't even looked at it yet (if ever).
Anyone hear the rumour that a part of the app called googleupdater.exe phones home with user info??

Erm, I think that's the bit where you are asked if it's OK for them to use certain parts of your information to improve the browser.

I didn't tick that bit, but KIS has still been asking me if I want to allow it access.

OK...my thoughts...
It's quite nice.
Speed is generally very good, although there's the odd slowdown.
For the saved passwords, there's no Master Password like with Firefox.
No Google toolbar as someone mentioned earlier.
Main thing I don't like... adverts! I've got so used to never seeing adverts, that it was quite irritating having to put up with them again. Hopefully someone will come along & do a Chrome equivalent of AdBlock Plus etc.
I'm back on FF3 now.

I was wondering when that theory would be brought up.
But then again anything is possible these days.
I guess we will hear more in the next few days as people get under the bonnet of this browser.

re: Google Launches Internet Browser - Chrome
Eh, & why is it installed in "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" instead of Program Files?

Go into Tools, About Google Chrome, and you get this -
Official Build 1583
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/0.2.149.27 Safari/525.13

Why not, btw? Not even with Firefox's "Master Password"?
Is it any less safe than keeping cookies for everything to save logging in all the time?

re: Google Launches Internet Browser - Chrome
I tried it for a few minutes - as Tez said, the adverts were a pain, I've got so used to FF3 & NoScript...
I'm sure it is tweakable, but so far it offers no huge advantage to make the effort worthwhile, imo.
Not that it is 'bad', just inertia favours the familiar, in my case
