Websites Not Properly Loading

Hello

Pretty much all day yesterday i was having issues getting webpages to fully load.

I have been getting RED X's where pictures should be.. if i do a google image search and open a pic its loading a line at a time.

Im downloading from news groups no problem at 2.16mb/s
Im on 20 MB

Im in the ML6 Area of Airdrie Scotland (on the Uddingston UBR)

im pinging @ 21 to BBC / Dustworld.net / No-servers.net

Im getting no packet loss..

iv reset my internet explorer settings.. restored advance settings ..
made sure a proxy aint on.. tried firefox and had the same issues.
iv rebooted my modem..
Im wired.

Does anyone have any ideas

Im pretty certain the last few nites its went of for like a split 30 secs then came back on.. mabey 2-3 times in the space of 4 days

My cams been freezing up on MSN.. and then ending and signing me out..

Something doesnt seem right
ooo yeah and my power levels and freq's are all @ or within acceptable levels for a Telewest Area..

iv also swapped my DLINK network card for a Realtek .. with the same issues still

you would think that if there is a problem with the DNS servers...
Virgin would well and truley know that.

its not even on the status page to say that theres an issue with DNS.. infact theres nothing atol on the status page lol

Re: Websites Not Properly Loading

AFAIK They don't often post about DNS outages on their status pages (though I don't check them THAT often)

If OpenDNS IPs work then you know it was a DNS issue

Re: Websites Not Properly Loading

cool mate..
i plugged my router back in lastnite.. and did add 1 of the open DNS Servers to the DNS section of the router..
however i also made the mistake of telling the pc to go to
DNS Servers of:
192.168.1.1
and
208.67.222.222
i actualy realised i basically DC'd myself by doing that.. it was a mistake..
but yeh.. il give just the open DNS servers a try tonite and see how it goes..
who knows when i get in .. the problem might be resolved..

Re: Websites Not Properly Loading

Do you use a router? If so you could change the routers DNS servers and just leave the PC to get them from the router...?

Re: Websites Not Properly Loading

i have 4 pcs in the house and for some unusual reason.. i always like my pc to 1.100
so i set manual IPS on all the pcs 101/102/103 etc..
and set the default gatway as the router
192.168.1.1
the dns as 192.168.1.1

is it better to use the router as Assigned by DHCP and just let the pcs auto pick up an IP?

I have a Linksys WRT54GS

Re: Websites Not Properly Loading

Thats what most people do just us DHCP.

Jus put the OpenDNS IPs where it says "Static DNS 1" and "Static DNS 2" Then reboot all your machines on the network and voila everything should be shipshape.

Re: Websites Not Properly Loading

seems to be exactly what im getting, but im in ng19 mansfield woodhouse nottinghamshire.

if and when it all goes to pot later i will give the open dns servers a try and see how it goes.

i do seem to have some packet loss though on the 3rd hop which in sure is virgin, first 2 hops being my PC and router.
