it doesn't work like that. network capacity plays a big part as does bandwidth provisioning to the uBr.

Anyone could say that who is in the last areas to be done, but as the saying goes someone has to be first as someone has to be last. As long as we get the upgrade at some point why worry, after all it is free. I am on the Cosham ubr & still waiting so its a case of i haven't been done yet either, just be patient.

My point (with tongue in cheek ) is that my bill says I am on broadband L, and the web site ways broadband L is up to 10Mb, but my modem still says I am on up top 4Mb.
And before people point it out, I realise that anything less than 10Mb is covered by the up 10Mb claim. It's just that, at the moment, I have got a less chance of getting more than 10Mb than we have of seeing another HD channel appearing .
So who's opening a book on which will be the last area to be upgraded?

Until your area is updated you are only on 4mb, also with lower stm. I am in the same situation myself, although only for a few more days till the end of the month. As i said in my last post they have to start somewhere & finish somewhere.

So what you are saying is that they are obliged to provide these upgrades?

I don't think there is anything in the terms and conditions of the service which says we are entitled to upgrades.
The way I see it is that we are paying £25 a month for a 4Mb connection. Virgin Media are upgrading that to a 10Mb connection, but still charging us the same £25 a month.
As it is not costing us any more (we'd be paying the £25 a month anyway), in my eyes it is a free upgrade for the consumer (it's not free for Virgin Media however, who have probably spent a fair bit on this... if not on upgraded equipment, then the staff to carry out the changes!)

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
When Sky Basics disappeared, didn't VM say that we were paying for a TV package (e.g. TV M, TV L, etc) rather than any specific channels?
Doesn't the same apply here? We're paying for the BB L package - it's just that the package is different for different people.
Using Virgin's own previous logic we're all paying for the same thing but being given different services for the same money.

I've always thought the upgrades were the only way long term customers got a reward for being loyal..but what do I know?

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
On the face of things £25 for a 4mb line doesnt really stand up to the competition. I see the upgrades as a must for VM to keep face in the eyes of their competitors and more importantly, their customers.
Stuff 'small print' its a matter of decency!

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
I don't see these upgrades as free. I think they are obliged to do so, because they know and everyone else knows that £25 a month for a 4Mb connection just isn't worth it. If you look at other ISP's they provide an up to 8Mb service which is far cheaper than what we pay for a 4Mb connection. It's basically their way of keeping there packages competitive.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
And the beauty of this conversation is that everyone wins.
Those who think that the upgrade is part of the service that VM are "obliged" to provide, get the upgrade (when their area is done).
Those who think it's a free upgrade, get their free upgrade (subject to the above caveat).
Next subject - how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
