Long story made short

So yesterday I reinstalled Windows XP Prof (Sp1) and the modem wasn't recognize by the computer although the onboard sound and amoungst other devices not being recognize as well, my thought was as its an older server pack it may not recognize a lot of devices. So I said to myself Sp2 should help with that as it is the average server pack, a part from Sp3.

So my step-father phoned up vm and basically made us do unecessary tasks that cause more annoyance than before. I originally knew we needed another installation CD. That being said, it had been a while that I had used the ntl installation CD, approximately 2years and I didn't find out until last night that the modem doesn't require the CD to install it once again.

After about an hour or so over the phone speaking to none Uk born n bred people with strange accents which made the task even better!
We were smack bam right where we were on square one.

My question is, could anyone assist me in installing my modem again on my other computer with basic english as I've only had 2 and a bit hours sleep.
If there is any questions that you may have please don't hesitate to ask however I am not the greatest acknowledge person about computers but I am most certainly willing to learn.

Any help would be appriecated

I take it you are connecting your Modem to your PC via USB? Ethernet would be a better bet assuming your PC has an Ethernet port and doesn't need any drivers apart from those that came with the Ethernet controller which should be with the Motherboard drivers

Nope, Ethernet. Im currently using another downgraded computer that I used a home made network called Belkin, the network seems to be fine as I can still use it on this computer. I haven't got the motherboard drivers as I had previously bought the computer from a friend.

Need a bit more specific than Intel

Try this Intel Utility

Then once you know, you will probably need to get the Intel Chipset installer from HERE

Also have you installed SP2/SP3 yet?

Yep installed Sp2 3am this morning.
Ye I did mention I was kinda tired

should be able to. It is an exe file.

By the sounds of it the chipset you have in newer than XP (maybe even SP2) which is why you are having problems with the E-Net adapter

Right, firstly I've just installed it and its restarted. My question is, what has it done? for my understanding

and secondly what else is there that I should do to solve my modem problem? Also I've just tried the sound and unfortunately it doesn't allow sound still.

Got to My Computer, right click and go to properties (or go into Control Panel and System) Click on the Hardware Tab and select 'Device Manager'

Do you see any yellow question marks?
