Belkin wireless G router problem
Hi,
Yesterday I bought a brand new Toshiba laptop, but it won't connect to the internet via the router. It'll go on the internet when the ethernet cable is connected direct from the modem to the laptop. It says its connected to the router on the icon in the bottom right hand corner, but when I click on the internet it says page cannot be displayed, also the email isn't working. It works perfectly fine on my old laptop, that has got XP, the new one is Vista.
I'd be very greatful if could help me out, its really frustrating me
Thanks
Tony

Re: Belkin wireless G router problem
 to the forum...
Have you got any wireless security set up on the router?
If so, have you double checked that the password entered on the laptop is correct?

Thanks for the reply Kevin.
No I don't think there is any wireless security on the router, its works ok on my old laptop. How can I check to see if there is security on the the router?
The password is definately correct as I wrote it down when I set it up on my old laptop.
Thanks
Tony

It also says the router has an excellent signal strength, but 'limited connectivity'.

Re: Belkin wireless G router problem
START > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK & SHARING CENTRE
Under SHARING AND DISCOVERY check everything is turned to ON, particularly NETWORK DISCOVERY

Re: Belkin wireless G router problem
whydoIneedatech
the page you are pointing to states clearly - Belkin 7230 802.11g wireless/cable router version 7
tony7 explains that he has a version 6000.
so your advise is incorrect as this problem only occurs on version 7 and not version 6.
tony7 if you can acces the internet with your old laptop , then the problem is not the router . the problem is most likely windows vista as your new laptop can connect to other networks !!!
check the advise oliver1948Uk has given you.
alternatively you might want to set a static IP on your vista pc
