Re: Wireless Speed Issue

It's a common problem actually. Wireless isn't all it's made out to be, and you'll struggle to get 20 MB on wireless (there's lots of overhead on the wireless protocol).
I'm not quite up to scratch on the more recent wifi developments, but I'm sure someone that does will be along shortly. I wouldn't hold my breath though. If you really want 20 MB, I'd recommend good old ethernet

Oh: to the forum btw.

Re: Wireless Speed Issue

Hi KBV1
Have a read of this, its an old thread but nothing much has changed:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/87...formation.html

It sounds like your network either has an 802.11b card (mybe built into a laptop?) or is dropping to 11mbs automatically due to other factors such as interferance from dect phones, microwaves (all work on the same public frequency) or other nearby wireless networks. They will drop even lower by the way in much the same way as a phone modem does, in order to prevent data loss.

What you really need to be futureproof is a rangemaxt next wnr834B router. and a wireless n adapter for your vista PC.

since having this router i have used a wireless n connection to my laptop which has built in wireless n and have had speed between 17.9 and 20 meg

just run a speed test and these are the results.

pretty good for a wireless connection, and there shouldn't be a problem with 50meg when it arrives because the router runs upto 230mbps

Re: Wireless Speed Issue

I put a rangemax in for a friend on 20mb and he is also getting good results. There are certain things that do tend to interfear with it tho but not as bad as his old philips router.
