Did anyone notice the ITV pundits going on over Ruud's 'offside' goal again last night? They showed some footage from the Spain game (IIRC) where a player was off the pitch and they were saying he was offside (according to UEFA's interpretation of the law). Thing was, it was an attacking player that was off the pitch, not a defender. Are they not aware that the offside rule distinguishes between attackers and defenders, or are they just blatantly ignoring that fact to 'prove' they are right in saying Ruud was offside? (I think it's the latter)

Someone at the BBC still sore over the Koeman incident then?

Ahh I thought you were on about the incessant nonsense spewed forth by Lineker, Hansen and Shearer. I don't mind O'Neill he's mad as cheese and clearly there just to wind the other 3 up

Yes, if it's a draw in that game.
I wonder what would have happened if they weren't playing each other in the last game and they were level like they could be tonight. Would they have to meet up and have just a penalty shoot-out somewhere? Maybe a pub carpark lol

I believe FIFA ranking will be the decider then (with the highest ranked team going through).

It gets decided on qualifying coefficients.......
Linky
Quote:
If Austria and Poland finish level in second position on points, goal difference and goals scored, they will be split on qualifying coefficients (points per game) from the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2008™, and Poland are superior 2.167-1.500 (only Austria's World Cup results count as they did not have to qualify for this tournament)
|
Quote:
If Romania fall by one goal, two goals or by a three-goal margin other than 3-0 and the other match finishes 0-0, Romania would advance as their head-to-head record with Italy would be dead level but they would have a superior overall goal difference (or in the case of the three-goal defeats, goals scored). If Romania lose by four goals or more and the other game ends 0-0, Italy would proceed with a better overall goal difference than Romania. If Romania lose 3-0 and the other match finishes 0-0, Italy and Romania would have to be split on qualifying coefficients, in which case Italy would prevail 2.364-2.250

A little off topic but Paraguay are beating Brazil 2 - 0 in their world cup qualifier.

Re: The Euro 2008 thread
That was a fantastic game, (for the neutrals of course)
After their second half performance Turkey fully deserved the win.
