Re: The Euro 2008 thread
I honestly thought v.Basten would throw Johnny Heitinga on into the centre of the park to settle things down when the French had that good spell at the start of the 2nd half but he thought, nah sod it we'll just attack them! brilliant stuff.

Re: The Euro 2008 thread
The French were tougher than expected, and I certainly had a few more scares than against Italy, but at the end of the day the scoreboard reads:
Holland 4 France 1.
The group of death, after two games:
Holland 6 points
Romania 2 points
France 1 point
Italy 1 point
Holland scored 7, conceded 1, and are through to the QFs with a game in hand. No-one in Holland would have dared predict this. Great stuff...

To throw on Robben and van Persie both on was a very brave decision. Credit to Robben, he rewarded his manager's faith in him, I think he was outstanding when he came on. To make one and score one was awesome.
I do like van BAstens style. I think he saw that the French were likely to stream forward looking for goals, and he exposed their difficulty to getback by catching them superbly on the counter attack.
Does Martin o'Neil not like Holland, he's comments after the game were a bit flat I thought.

I think ONeil said something along the lines of "its easy to score when France are chasing goals" and they didnt really give Robben much credit for his goal, blaming the keeper. RObben was surrounded by 3 defenders when he hit the roof of the net, and Schneiders finish was top notch whether in teh 1st, or 91st minute.
I think they (the pundits) are still eating sour grapes over the fact that England aren't there.

Re: The Euro 2008 thread
It's going to be interesting to see what teams Croatia and Holland field in their final games, as both teams have already won their groups. The last thing they'll both want, is to pick up suspensions or injuries for the quarter finals.

KNowing that a Romanian victory will knock out Italy and France from the tournament, I can see teh Dutch taking things very easy in their last game.

Can you imagine the look on Platini's face, if the dutch team sheet has half a dozen name changes.

I would love it if that happens, there would be more claims of teams cheating if it does lol

Re: The Euro 2008 thread
I can see Van Basten resting some players, but I don't see him fielding a deliberately weak team. What's he going to do, take off Van Nistelrooy and bring on Huntelaar?
Did anyone notice the ITV pundits going on over Ruud's 'offside' goal again last night? They showed some footage from the Spain game (IIRC) where a player was off the pitch and they were saying he was offside (according to UEFA's interpretation of the law). Thing was, it was an attacking player that was off the pitch, not a defender. Are they not aware that the offside rule distinguishes between attackers and defenders, or are they just blatantly ignoring that fact to 'prove' they are right in saying Ruud was offside? (I think it's the latter)
