A big week for the EU Constitution aka the Lisbon Treaty

On Thursday the Irish referendum on it takes place, and today and tomorrow Stuart Wheeler's action against the government's refusal to allow a referendum is heard in court in London.

If the Irish vote no (and the three major parties are desperate for a yes vote) and the courts decide against the Brown government, maybe there'll be a small chance for democracy.

The EU's definition of democracy is only listening to those who vote for you!

If this gets voted down in Ireland they will do what they have always done, it will be taken away a few words deleted a few new ones inserted so it means the same even though the words have changed and we will all start again. The EU is not listening has no intention of listening and will not allow the peasants to upset it's plans scary how alike it is with our PM at the minute eh.

From the back of a booklet my daughter received at school:

"The European Union aims to be a fair and caring society. All EU countries are committed to peace, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights, and they work together to promote these values in the wider world."

So there you have it, the EU is committed to peace and democracy.

All too true. The Tories are no more reliable. Cameron has backed away from his pledge (for want of a better word) to allow a referendum on the treaty, saying it would be "almost impossible" to allow one once the treaty had come into force. How very convenient for him.

Thank God for men like Stuart Wheeler who has at least put up a fight.

Is that an attempt at Euro-comedy?

Bit worried that the EU appear to be targetting schoolchildren for their pro-EU propaganda. Bit like drug dealers, hit 'em young.

Guardian Newspaper

Quote:
France's foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, said there would be "gigantic incomprehension" from the rest of Europe if Ireland voted no. "The first victims would be the Irish. They have benefited more than others."
Democracy EU(ie socialist) style. If these kind of threats were made involving countries outside the EU, the EU would start sanctions against the country making the threats.
