Can recorded programme be transfered from V+ Box hard Drive to an external Hard drive

In the event of a V+ Box failure would it be possible to transfer the contents of the V+ internal hard drive onto an external drive.

I asked a service engineer if this was possible but he did not know.
He said in his experience when a customers V+ Box stopped working they were replaced and the customer lost all the programmes they had recorded and not yet viewed.
I find it hard to believe that there is no way of transfering the contents of the Hard drive if the V+ Box breaks.

Anyone have answers to this problem.

Thanks

Jan

Re: Can recorded programme be transfered from V+ Box hard Drive to an external Hard d

If VM were prepared to dissassembel STBs to put the HD from one V+ into another, or otherwise mess around, then no doubt it would be possible.

It won't happen though. There is no means for the customer to get at just the hard disk 9ports like USB, ethernet, or even SATA are all disabled. So unless you wan't to routinely archive to your DVD recorder / Video player (which would defeat the convenience of the V+), you loose your recordings if your box has to be swapped or you decide to reformat the drive.

But you buy the Sky+/SkyHD box, you don't buy the V+.

Even if you do swap out the hard drive in the Sky boxes, it invalidates your warranty, so never do it in the first 12 months lol

true but if you wanted to do it on a V + receiver you can, however if VM ask for it back you'v wasted your money
