Removing old Telewest cables
I've just moved into a house which has an old Telewest Broadband connection - although as far as I know, the connection is no longer current. The small white boxes attached to the wall stand out like a sore thumb and the cables are placed really inconveniently (running right across the fireplace to connect one room to the next). I really want to get rid of the cables, is it safe to simply cut through them and plaster them in at the wall? Any help would be gratefully received.

Re: Removing old Telewest cables
AFAIK yes you can.
However do not remove the box on the outside of the property, otherwise will cause problems for you neighbours
Virgin will not remove the cables. Same as BT wouldn't.

Re: Removing old Telewest cables
No they wouldn't as he isn't a customer, and the £30 install fee would normally cover rewiring internally anyway

Re: Removing old Telewest cables
I tried calling Virgin, but they refused to send someone out. I hadn't even noticed a box on the outside of the house. I simply want to remove the internal cables and box and replaster the wall as if they were never there. BTW, I'm not a Virgin customer, it was the previous people who lived in our house - hence why Virgin are unwilling to come out and remove the cables (even when I offered to pay). Thanks so much for your help.

The connection should be properly terminated in the box outside the property. As long as he avoids touching that, he should be fine.
