Re: Unbelievably S L O W Connection Birmingham

Hi Liam.

Have you tried power cycling your modem and router, and rebooting your pc?
Do you use a router?
If so, do you get the same problem connecting your pc direct to the modem?

Which newsgroup provider are you getting such slow speeds from?
If you're not using VM's own newsgroups, what speeds do you get from there?

Have you tried multiple file downloads to check your connection speed?
Do 2 simultaneous downloads from the VM demo games server plus 2 simultaneous downloads of Zen test files -- that's four file downloads happening at once!
Now add up each of the four download speeds to get your total download rate.

Thanks for the reply.

Connected via LAN the speed is brilliant.

Must be my router which I have reset to no avail. I did experience some spyware yesterday and it took ages to get rid of it, since then this has happened.

Any ideas>?

Re: Unbelievably S L O W Connection Birmingham

If you're getting decent download speeds by connecting direct to the modem, I'd recommend you find out how to do a factory reset on your router.

If that doesn't work, it might be the right time to consider buying a new one...

Some people swear by Belkin gear.
The rest of us just swear *at* it...

Might be worth finding a mate who'll lend you theirs for a few hours?
(Tho' make sure they know how to save (and restore!) their custom router settings as you'll need it reset to default.)
