Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

I have been trying to obtain sub-titles to TV5 programmes for a long time without much success. TV5 say that some programmes are provided with them but cannot indicate when and at what time these are shown.
Could someone assist with solving this problem? TV5 can only say that they may give such information sometime in the future.
Is this because the French do not provide or are unable to provide sub-titles to programmes?

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

I've seen subtitles on TV5 a few times. It has teletext subtitles, so you'll need to use your TV remote to select teletext page 888.

Does this help? http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/programmes/stt.php

ps. Bienvenue sur le forum!

I shall say this only once, with a name like Marcel why do you need subtitles?

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

Thanks for replies. Problem 1 remains, why can't TV5 indicate when sub-titles are available? Virgin say teletext is only available on analogue channels, so no good for TV5 and a good reason for them is I am deaf.

I blame poor training Teletext is available on many channels on the digital service.

Whereabouts are you, marcel? Teletext is working on TV5 for me. Teletext page 794 tells you which programmes are subtitled (at least, I think it does. My French isn't very good).

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

Spiderplant thanks
I am in the Croydon area, tried teletext on TV5 and just get a band at the bottom red, green, yellow and blue with the number 100 or 794 but no teletext. Is there a time when I should get it? tried at 4.30 today.

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

The teletext is there all the time.

Does anything happen if you enter a page number with your TV remote? Page 891 has French subtitles on at the moment. ("Mise au point")

Can you get teletext on other channels, such as 132 or 851?

It's a regional difference

ex-Telewest areas get Teletext (when you use the remote control for your tv to access the teletext and not the vm remote) but unfortunately i don't think the same thing is available in ex-NTL areas

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

I have just tried 794 and 891 but no teletext for Vie privie, the other two suggested 132 Frasier and 851 BBC again no teletext. This was a Telewest service area before Virgin Media. Any suggestions please

Re: Sub-titles for TV5 programmes

I'm in an ex-ntl area and have teletext for TV5 on-screen at this time (19:17).

Select teletext on your TV as you would for an analogue terrestrial channel. Page 100 gives a contents page, pages 794&795 gives into on sub-titles, pages 891-894 are the actual sub-titles in different languages(none of them english).

I'm in ex-NTL area and Marcel is ex-Telewest! (Please could someone in an ex-TW area check whether teletext is working on TV5 for you?)

Marcel: You don't have a V+ connected by HDMI or component, do you? If so, you won't get teletext, as it doesn't work on these connections. You would have to switch to SCART.

If you are using a SCART connection, please go into the display settings (home->8->4) and check whether the output is set to RGB or composite. Change the setting, press OK to save, then see whether your teletext works.
