virgin 1 signal problem

noticed this last night that 4:3 signal was in black square box with black lines at the top and bottom.

SCC last night was in 14:9 but again black borders on all sides.

Today 4:3 now fine but noticed horrible black lines in every direction in other signals 14:9, 16:9. Take the chuck advert, wii one, gas homecare advert or even the ironman film trailer.

Its like the transmitions have no code to tell the TV's what format is being shown. As you need to manually keep changing the format yourself to stop the 4 sided black bars.

Re: virgin 1 signal problem

This has been mentioned many times and is a huge annoyance. V1 only transmits in 4:3 - even 16:9 programmes, which is why a 16:9 programme has black lines above and below, and then left and right due to being in 4:3.

yes I understand that but this hapening with 4:3 image last night as well which was very annoying. Basically I have learned to accept the 4:3 but I dont want to see 4:3 go to like a pokey image. This reminded me of the setanta sports one when even 4:3 signals were like zoomed out in the same manner.

They got sentanta working so hopefully virgin 1 and other channels doing this will get fixed.

Lol 'they got setanta working'. Setanta got it working, not Virgin. It's down to the broadcasters to fix these issues as they are the ones broadcasting it in these formats.

setanta did this when it first went free to XL users especially if you watched the golf channel mainly would show in pokey little box image all the time.

I am having intermittent issues with other channels too. Worried it maybe the box playing up or worse the telly.

Dave during top gear was in 4:3 but freeview was showing it widescreen.

It seems all flextech channels seem wonky quite lot sci fi, movies 24.

To be fair though sky sports news on freeview gone 4:3 too but that could be sky.

Just trying to nail down why its gone beserk.

I was watching footy match few days ago on setanta german game. during the action it was wide screen. They did an shot of the fans the thing just jumped to 4:3 then went back to widescreen for the action.

The problems just dont seem to be down to just virgin 1 anymore progressively seems worse.

Surely not alone noticing this.

Another issue how poor signals get sometimes after 11pm almost as if VM turn the power down black levels get extremely grainy unbearable to watch. Like watching low grade video on your pc.

Yet during the day and peal the picture quality superb.
