That's funny because i've never called anybody the N word in any context, and i've never witnessed any other black person do so either. In fact, the only times i've witnessed the word used is by white people and as a way of causing the most possible offensive.
You clearly feel very strong about this issue, your knowledge of sociology is obviously amazing and you seem desperate to use such a fun and exciting word as the "N word". So please, why don't you quit bitching and moaning about spotty and ginger people being insulted and go and call the next black person you dislike the "N word". I hope it works out well for you.
To get back on topic; Xbox Live, just like the internet, is a haven for neanderthals who act like they're anonymous. As the common demographic for Xbox Live is young white males, some seem to see it as an outlet for aggression against those who don't fit. It's not just racism, though that seems to be the most popular, it's many types of xenophobia.

Open your eyes, even in college i was seeing cases of the N word being used between coloured people, completely inoffensively. In fact, my friend, Nath, let us call it him as it didn't bother him. His family chose to make the word normal and as such he's not insulted by it in the slightest, out of respect we let him call us "whities" A good laugh was had by all the first time the tutor heard THAT discussion.

Well if you get offended being called ginger you should know how black people feel when they get called the N word, so why would you use it?
Just play it safe and not use the word incase it causes offence, it's easy not to use a word

Hmm, how about automatic word recognition, if a "blacklisted" word is spoken the IP address is automatically relayed to the police together with the surrounding 30 seconds of conversation?

I don't care what you've seen or haven't seen, it's completely irrelevant. I'm obviously well aware that some people use the word in many contexts. Please re-read my post and the one i was quoting and you might get the point.

In which case, why can't this word be desensitised by teaching? One family managed it, why can't others? Nobody gets insulted, nobody feels to need to say it to cause offence. Win/win?
Or is that too logical?

I feel strongly about inequality, I feel as a white man I am the one who has to bite my tongue and watch what I say in case I upset some minority group while they whittle away at the white mans rights in the country all the time. I have never used the N word but I do not like the unequal way im told im not allowed to

I do not get offended my point was I personally do not see any difference an insult is an insult and imo neither is worse than the other

Why do you speak as though you and your friends are some sort of unique, amazing story? Maybe you need to open your eyes. The word is desensitised to lots of people and social groups already. But to change the word's original meaning and intent is impossible, and there will always be people who want to use it that way.

I see, so you have a chip on your shoulder. The very same you no doubt complain about minorities having.
Nobody is telling you that you're not allowed to use the N word. As has been said time and time again; it's about context.
The notion of you being "discriminated" for apparently not being allowed to use the N word because you're white (as though it's some sort of right, or privilege) is utterly ridiculous. In fact, i almost feel a scream of "It's PC gone mad!" coming on.
By the way; i've never whittled away at white mans rights. Just thought i'd mention that.

Good analogy. Though i'd reccommend staying clear of pedigree chum, it's glorified slop.
Who are "they" and "them" and what is the "pedigree chum"?
Actually, i'm not sure if i really care. That said, if your only form of resistence to your dog food being stolen is going on internet message boards and acting like a cliched, out-of-touch, bitter and ignorant man then i suggest you re-think it.

Oh no, don't go down that route, what i'm saying is, if some people manage to cope just fine, why can't others?
As for the personal insult to Zingle in the above post, i suggest you rethink your manners in general.

Because everybody is different.

Zingle is a grown man. I'm sure he can defend himself.
I doubt he's insulted, considering he considers no insult worse than another, i'm sure it's water off a duck's back.
Of course, if he wants an apology or retraction then i feel i ought to request one for being told that i; call people by the N word, whittle on about white man's rights and am trying to steal his dog food.
The very fact that i don't do any of the above 3 things make my comments of "out-of-touch" and "ignorant" quite appropriate. He's admitted to having a chip on his shoulder, so "bitter" isn't particuarly inaccurate. Add them all together and it's quite "cliched". So actually, i think my manners are fine, thanks.

Re: COD4 and racism on live.
I can defend myself quite well actually. I will speak my mind in every day life as well as on this forum . (Within the rules of the forum of course) I do not pamper to the over liberalisation this country has seen over the last 15 years and I will say I do not disagree when I do not agree
The they and them refer to the PC thought police who try to tell us what to think and say and take our freedom of expression away, also minority groups that although leave their own country in search of a better life get one and then try to change this country. And the pedigree chum is my right to said freedom of expression and my rights as a white man who I feel in this country is the most prejudiced against of all
I do not want an apology or retraction as I am quite happy for you to express yourself freely as long as I am also

Re: COD4 and racism on live.
The 'N' word issue has to be taken in context. Yes, black guys do call each other it and may allow close friends of other races call them it, because they know that they are using it as a friendly term, in the same way that many men will call their close friends by certain swearwords, knowing it will be taken as a friendly term and they don't actually mean it in its extreme form. The issue is when someone else uses those terms to refer to them, without knowing them, or using it in the offensive form.
One example that I can remember on COD4 was a Canadian guy who came top in our team, I was second, but some way behind him and most of the others had higher deaths to kills. Throughout the match he had been swearing about the play level of his team-mates, but at the end he was effing and blinding about the useless N*****'s on his team. It was obvious to me he wasn't black and was using it in a pretty unpleasant way to put down the less able members of the team. I filed a complaint about him and luckily he decided to leave the game lobby. I defy anyone, but the most racist person to listen to the way he was talking and not wince. Yes, people can become de-sensitized to words, I wasn't bothered about his swearing, but some words and the way they are used cannot become de rigeur.
