So all I've got to look forward to is a slow down in any game I play after about 20 mins, its a bloody rip off, I pay for 4MB but in the small print it says 'up to' 4MB so they have you by the b**ls.

They gave me some bull about if I download at a fast speed then I slow other people's Internet down, how the hell am I overriding other peoples speeds? I am on some sort of priority line that nick's bandwidth off other users. Pack of lies me thinks.

I'm gonna look for somewhere else that doesn't cap your speed!
this is indeed IS all to do with your download rates, im still on the 4mb right now, but if i download or play alot of gaming all day, then the speed gets capped from 4pm - 9pm weekdays (peak hours)

i would suggest checking your speed before 4pm, after 4pm, and then again about 9.30pm, on different days, with different usage habits.

this way you may be able to avoid getting capped as much in the future.

[EDIT] i almost forgot, it looks to me as if you only get capped if you are using the service exessivly during the peak hours, i dont think the amount you use the service before 4pm and after 9pm matters.

Yeah, i've recently just upgraded my service from the 2mb which i always got happily, to the L package since the 2mb was a bit slow for downloading. When i phone them i said my 4mb to 10mb upgrade wasnt going to upgrade within 2months or so, so about april or may i guess, living in Greenwich. sSOO lONGG

Maybe not you personally, and I agree with what you say about 4mb as I get a rock solid connection with 4mb too in NG17 area, just hope the 10mb rollout doesn't b@lls it up for us! I'd rather stay on a solid 4mb than a potentially ropey 10mb any day.

But you just have to chuckle when sales reps were promising 10mb last year and it never happened and people were pee'd off and now the 10mb schedule has been posted it's a laugh seeing people still moaning they haven't got their 10mb yet

If it's any consolation, I got my update, and whilst it is no-where near 10Mbps, it is so far a pretty solid 5.5, occasionally straying to near 6. though I'd happily accept more, this speed is ok for now.

Hopefully they won't just leave it at that and start tuning the network or load balancing or whatever they do, just upping the speed and not configuring the network to cope would be a bit silly.

Well if they do upgrade us, and these are the speeds that we get, they will still be able to say that thousands or millions of people are on our "up to" 10mb service. they (VM) will use the numbers on the service, even if they get nowhere near the speed, to advertise that they are the biggest broadband provider in the speed bracket. I am by no means a disgruntled user (yet) as i get a solid 4mb connection in Birkenhead. As a business selling point it would be great advertising. Perhaps the 10mb will not suffer as many problems as the 20 seems to but get ready for it just in case.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

In all honesty I never upgraded our connection from 2 meg to 4 meg fully expecting the connection to be 10 meg. Well I did wrongfully assume Liverpool would have been upgraded due to the hugh coverage of the area alone. But more like we really wanted the 4mb to suit our needs and the only £7 per month extra made sence as it allows 2 of us to get decent speeds at the same time rather than this main pc blocking the second pc when downloading.

The 10 meg upgrade will be welcome when it arrives here in Liverpool. But as I have said before and others I think, would prefer to stay on a full 4 meg connection that get 2 meg via a 10 meg connection!.

I have tried pasting both of those links into the address bar and none of them work.I am using a Linkys router through the cable modem.Could that be stopping the speed?

You need to set up newsgroups in Outlook Express.open OE then Tools,Accounts,News, Add.Type in the first line.hit Close. it will ask if you want to download groups. say yes , Choose the group in second line, or conversely just type it in.
If you have difficulty with my instructions, theres a fuller set on Virginmedia in customer zone.
Once you're set up, just post your query or complaint.Beats fighting with India.

Link to VM's guide to setting up newsgroups.

As cleshe kindly posted, once you've got OE setup VM's Tech Support group is 'virginmedia.support.broadband.cable' on news.virginmedia.com or text.news.virginmedia.com.

Give it a go -- it's a much better TS experience!
