Re: 20mb users...what is your speed right now
Got 23456 KBps this morning might have gone higher will have to check my speedtest stats, my friend has seen higher on his Virgin Media connection. I am suprised cable allows us to do this. However i cannot drown in the speed untill my new LAN is working, my router has a dodgy WAN port and is sticking at 10MBPS totally throttling my speed =[
However directly connected to modem i achieve the lovely 20MB speeds w000t! Oh and my homeplugs are also limiting my speed, which is odd as they stream HD media to my TV perfectly.
Anyway, just posting as a happy customer wishing VM would sort out their speeds for everyone =]
And as a side note, i hope to be upping to the 50MEG package when it is finally offered, as for the outcome i can only hope it will reflect the service i am currently getting.

Re: 20mb users...what is your speed right now
Since november of last yr ive not been able to get more than 4mb from my 20mb connection untill around 6am when it will pick up to about 14mb untill around 11am then it returns to 1 - 4 mb.
rite now this is the speed im getting.
Sat, 22 Mar 2008 23:48:57 UTC

Overall Average Speed = approx 2268 Kbps, 2.22 Mbps
Sun, 23 Mar 2008 00:06:07 UTC
Test 1: 1024K took 3906 ms = 262.2 KB/sec, approx 2161 Kbps, 2.11 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 4123 ms = 248.4 KB/sec, approx 2047 Kbps, 2 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 3903 ms = 262.4 KB/sec, approx 2162 Kbps, 2.11 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 7326 ms = 279.6 KB/sec, approx 2304 Kbps, 2.25 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 2169 Kbps, 2.12 Mbps
I have pages of speed tests like this printed out going back as far as nov.
ive phoned cs an bs and had 3 engineers sent out all said they cant find anything wrong an one even suggested that virgin are traffic shapping people out side of 4-9pm although virgin deny this but they state there are no problems in my area an there are no problems with connection but are still unable to offer an explination as to why i cant get more than 4mb from mid day untill 6am.
So im passing the matter to a solicitor, maybe he can get virgin to explain

(You know that people have reported totally incorrect results with that speedtest -- especially with 20Mb connections?)
Before you make the legal jump, I'd seriously urge you to do the tests that TS want and report the results via the newsgroup. What do you have to lose? Maybe 30 minutes?
The next time your connection speed drops dramatically for more than a few minutes, connect your pc straight to your cable modem, by-passing any router and check the speed again by downloading multiple files (see below).
If your speed is still terrible, then collect the following information (courtesy of Annie's excellent Broadband FAQ): * Your netstat -a (see Q05 )
* Your total download speed from 4 simultaneous file downloads (as outlined in Q02)
* Ping to www.bbc.co.uk (see Q06)
* Two trace routes to www.bbc.co.uk (see Q06)
* Your modem logs and signal levels (see Q07)
* And a good description of your exact issue
* Your alias - The part of your email address before the @ symbol, this is so support can identify your account details on their system. ie. if your email is fredbloggs@blueyonder.co.uk or fredbloggs@ntlworld.com then fredbloggs is what is required
If you've not already setup access to newsgroups, you'll find a guide here.
And VM's Tech Support group is 'virginmedia.support.broadband.cable' on news.virginmedia.com or text.news.virginmedia.com.

Re: 20mb users...what is your speed right now
I usually find 'Speedtest.net' to be fairly acurate, anyway I posted this in the newsgroups and got a not very satisfying reply:-
Last few weeks have been nightmarish, 20mb speed is slower than my
previous 4mb.
Mornings at 8.30 seems ok, tested at :- http://nettest.virginm.net/ 2.46 mb excellent speed, would download 1gig test iso in around 16 mins.
one thirty in the afternoon and the same testfiles max out at 359kbps
speedtest.net also reports 3223kb/sec and gets steadily slower as the day
goes on, trying to surf in the evenings is absolutely chronic.
4pm nettest iso test file 126kb/sec

The poster probably wants it fixed yesterday
Lets face it, they took 5 months to fix mine, So i don't think 1 months wait is that bad. When they did fix it this is what i get now.

It might not be very satisfying to you, Largerme. But a response like that could save CountBathory a decent sum in wasted legal fees...
And I'm very pleased that you got an answer to your query without too much hassle or speaking to someone who didn't seem to understand your problem or it costing you anything. Even if it wasn't the answer you wanted!
With a bit of luck, other folk will follow your example and bankrupt the "support" premium phone line before they shut it down!

No not yesterday, three weeks ago maybe
Problem is they always say next month, I have seen people on the newsgroups asking why the supposed update is still not finished 2/3 months later.
'This date is subject to change' dosen't give you much confidence.
