Re: Places to go

What are you into - culturally, scenically, aesthetically, funwise?

Re: Places to go

I just like a bit of scenary and fresh air - stretch the legs a bit. Spot the odd squirrel, or something more exotic.

"That's a coot, mate - note the white bit"
"Not a duck then"
"No"
"Ah. But that's a duck though <points>"
"No - that's a goose. A Canadian one"
"What's it doing here"
"They fly"

Re: Places to go

Got it!

Coombe Abbey Country Park................. near Coventry. LOL

Cootes, ducks, geese, herons, swans, formal gardens (C. Brown), extensive grounds with squirrels and allsorts if you look, fishing, history, no great views beyond...
and a 12th century, comfortable, pricey, interesting, Medieval Cistercian monks' abbey to stay over in: http://www.coombeabbey.com/
and a great chippy up the road in Brinklow.
Any good?

You seem to be well placed to visit half the regular posters on the forum

Stonehenge is where we go for a day out dan saaf with a round trip via Avebury & the White Horse Hill (bit too far from you neck of the woods though).

Lincoln might be worth a try, an attractive city IIRC.

Who said anything about a map, huh

I print the AA Route Finder instructions, and we blindly follow them. When we get lost, I resort to the map and hope the Fates are with us.

Re: Places to go

Eden camp is an interesting place http://www.edencamp.co.uk/
also the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (Heartbeat country) http://www.nymr.co.uk/, The Yorkshire Air Museum http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/mus/uk/elv/elvmus.htm or any one of a number of different museums in York, if you're in York in the evening I can thoroughly recommend the Ghost Hunt of York http://www.ghosthunt.co.uk/

Hope that's some help (no I don't live in York - Lancashire born and bred)

Re: Places to go

Such a wealth of places to visit not too far, we are very lucky living in Yorkshire. Shame a lot of the places require a far bit of walking though.

Re: Places to go

Thanks all Rep fairy will be visiting shortly.

I've been to Brimham Rocks a few times - lot of rabbits. Harewood House I lost control of my sister's wheelchair on a gravel path - nearly ended up in the lake. Happy memories. Haven't been to the Sculpture in years. Remember belting my head off a metal exhibit - think it may have been a train. Hard to tell with sculpture.

Donna Nook in Lincs is worth a visit to see the seals although this time of year isn't really the best time for viewing.
