Very strange PC problem, PC wont POST.
Hi guys,
I'm having some weird problem with my PC and hoping one of you nice people, can help me.
I have no idea why but my PC seems to have trouble starting up..... you know when you switch the PC on the fans etc all roar and start up.....well, the fans just get stuck on the roar sound and the clicks and start up sounds of the PC dont happen......the light doesnt flash on the keyboard, the picture doesnt show on the monitor (instead the monitor power light just flickers like it does when the PC is off but the monitor power is on. In addition to this the LED light for hard drive activity is stuck on a solid blue light.
I had to press the restart button about 12 times to get the PC to fire up properly. In other words, it seems to not be able to POST!
Any ideas what the hell is going on? I'm at loss as to what it could be.....my mobo temp and cpu temp are low.... 47 degrees for the CPU (when being overclocked as much as I could) and the mobo at 26 degrees
My setup is as follows:-
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
2gb OCZ Platinum RAM
Asus P5b Motherboard
BFG GeForce 8800 GT 512mb
Seasonic 600W PSU
Hope someone can help me?
I was overclocking my CPU but nothing too drastic and I also have the latest BIOS installed for my mobo.
Hope someone can help me
Thanks
Sim

reset the bios? you say after 12 goes it did fire up? sounds like a failing mobo to me or possibly psu but with the fact it did fire up eventually id blame the mobo.
Try with the hdd/s disconnected see if its posts

Ive had this problem with a PSU before, if you have a spare i would check that as it's the cheapest fix.

Re: Very strange PC problem, PC wont POST.
Yes, it happens when I overclock.
The weird thing is, I wont be overclocking but the PC still fails to POST, and when I eventually get it to POST it says "Overclocking Failed" even though I didnt have it enabled.
I think its more my mobo than my PSU......
Do you guys understand what I mean though? when the PC switches on the fans roar etc etc and I hear about 3 clicking sounds from inside the PC when it doesnt POST.... weird
I think I might need a new mobo to be honest :/

Re: Very strange PC problem, PC wont POST.
btw, I've reset the CMOS jumpers and this problem still happens.
I have the latest version of my BIOS installed, do you think I should go back to an older version, if so, how? I've tried to use the "Asus Updater" software but it wont let me flash earlier versions

I have seen the overclock failed fault on both Asus and Gigabyte boards when they have been on their way out
to go back download older file and try the updater point to older file failing that its a floppy dos and awflash

Re: Very strange PC problem, PC wont POST.
i've downgraded the BIOS to an older version and I've reset the CMOS but no joy.
It took me 25 restarts to get the PC to boot up, once its booted its absolutely fine, how bizarre!!!
Oh well, I've ordered a new Mobo and PSU which will arrive on Wednesday :0
