Simple question VM & Netgear router

Hi

Hope someone can help.

I have Virgin media and use their supplied modem. I want wireless within the flat so I've just bought a Netgear 'Rangemax' wireless cable router.

I was expecting that I could plug the white virgin cable into the netgear but seems I must connect the netgear to the Virgin modem via an ethernet cable.

Is this right? is it the most sensible way to proceed? I could take the netgear back if there's a better / neater option (ideally I'd like less boxes / power sockets in use).

With Cable Broadband, you have to use the Virgin Media supplied modem. The modem then connects via ethernet to the router WAN port. Hence you must ensure your router does not include it's own modem.

Routers with inbuilt modems are available for ADSL (BT type phone) systems only. Cable and ADSL work a little differently, hence the router setup differences.

Thanks so it has to be 2 boxes and 2 power sockets used?

The router is specifically for cable so I assume it doesn't contain a modem.
