Re: Blu-ray Disc drive for the 360?

I remember they released a statment saying it would be considered if Blu-Ray won the Next Gen format war. Although I Dont see it comming any time soon if at all. Maybe in XBOX 3.

I'ld be very supprised, if Microsoft hadn't been developing a Blue ray, and like-wise Sony developing a HD-DVD drive.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Microsoft tend to hedge their bets, so they can react incredibly fast for a such a large company.

Re: Blu-ray Disc drive for the 360?

I know they Can I just dont think they will. For the average none-tech savy person if they bought a HD-DVD add-on only to find its now basically no use then I dont think they will go out a buy another add-on.

I know that microsoft could have one developed and out pretty darn fast but I just cant see it at the moment. But thats just my opinion weather it be right or wrong

Sony is in talks with console rival Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360, according to a senior executive.

Quote:
A Blu-ray drive in a 360 would make Microsoft more competitive with the PS3, but it would also mean extra revenues for Sony’s electronics division. It would also add further cost to the 360, meaning a premium edition of the console could be necessary.
Quote:
A Blu-ray drive could be incorporated in its top-of-the-range Elite Xbox, or Microsoft could again offer a drive as a plug-in peripheral.

Microsoft Corp is not in talks to include Sony Corp's Blu-ray high-definition DVD technology in its Xbox 360 video game console, an executive said on Wednesday.

It's standard operating procedure for Microsoft to deny things until they're officially announced so it's difficult to tell what's misinformation and what isn't. But yeah if you want Blu Ray in a console right this minute then you don't really have much choice other than to buy a PS3

Similar to Apple. It probably keeps the competition guessing, and covers them in case the product is delivered late (or the project is cancelled).

As for the advice about the PS3. I know this is going to suprise at least one forum member, but, if you want Blu Ray, although some Home Cinema mags have pointed out that a dedicated player gives better quality, I'd recommend a PS3. Partly because you also get games on it, and partly because Blu Ray is an evolving standard, and the PS3 seems to be the only player that is regularly updated to take advantage of any improvements.
