It's a problem, Suicide is usually a cry for help, women are much better at doing it without killing themselves, men on the other hand see to pick methods of suicide that mean the cry for help is found too late.

Re: Top UK police chief is found dead
Sad news, but what was someone who had "suffered from bouts of depression, and had previously threatened suicide" doing in such a such a responsible, high profile public position?

I meant that he should have been removed from his post given his state of mind!

You dont, but surely you need to know the context before you can have a view. For example and im in no way making any link or judgement this is just an example "did you think Fred West commiting suicide was a shame?"

In my experience - those who talk about committing suicide tend not to go ahead thankfully, recognising its irrationality (did i just make that word up ). The ones we should worry about are the ones who say nothing.
Obviously, his problems were out in the open going by the news reports, but had anyone noticed a downward spiral in his mood of recent, or did it go unnoticed
Suicide is always a shame, especially for those left behind

Re: Top UK police chief is found dead
Irrationality is a perfectly valid term...
IMHO you're correct, the strong, silent type are those at risk.

You cannot just go removing anyone from any post because of something they have said. There are these boring things called employment laws you need to consider. Just because someone is depressed you don't sack them, you help them. Many firms have corporate counciling and annonymous numbers for this purpose, not a 1930s mentality to the problem.

It is not an uncommon illness to have.

Yes, he escaped his punishment by doing so.

The world is a better place without the likes of Fred West in it, at least we don't have to pay bucket loads of money to keep him in comfort for the rest of his life.

Re: Top UK police chief is found dead
No and I hope I never do but we all know that people that are never going to be released get a hell of a lot of privileges, Peter Suitcliff, Ian Brady, Rosemary West, just to name a few.

exactly my point.
it appears this guy took his own life because he was afraid the bad things he had been doing were about to be exposed too
