London's transport system is many things, and it is generally quite good, but one thing it is not, is cheap.
Stuart you have to realise that most of the country envies the cheap London public transport. It's a lot more expensive out in the sticks and a damn sight more efficient than many of us experience who live elsewhere.

Our last bus from the nearby town leaves at 8.40 pm which is an absolute swine when you consider the number of people working late or at night jobs in Portsmouth who use the Portsmouth ferry which is the quickest route into Gosport.Trouble is you then either have to find a lift,or ride a bike/motorbike(which negates the point of public transport) or take a taxi to get home. The last time I bothered it was nearly £3 for a 4 mile trip by bus plus the ferry fare.A taxi is of course double that.No train service here once you leave Portsmouth and no underground at all.

No I think Londoners should be pleased to have one of the best city transport systems in the world

I think its not so cheap if you have to make one off trips as such where you dont have a travel card/oyster, but for where you can buy oyster/weekly travel cards, its not so bad.
London actually has one of the most expensive public transport systems on the planet.

I remember I travelled from London to Manchester cheaper than it cost me to travel a few mins on the tube between a couple of zones on the underground.

Hmmm ... I bet Red Ken, Lee Jasper et al are delighted with the turn this thread has taken

While Ken was responsible for a lot of the fare rises (despite what he says), I think we do need to get back to topic.

Re: Red Ken's Head of Equalities & Policing under the spotlight?

Well unless you have a crystal ball it's too early to say that surely and of course Red Ken has promised his old buddy his job back if/when he is cleared of any wrongdoing so if he's as squeaky clean as you imply he'll be just fine. Of course alleged romatic attachment to people who run organisations tax payers money has been given to isn't a crime but then again it isn't a sign of great impartiality either.

Well he could have resigned last week or next week couldn't he and having been promised his old job back it's really not much of a statement is it?

So what would you suggest, if Ken asked you for advice?

Re: Red Ken's Head of Equalities & Policing under the spotlight?

I'd suggest these people acted beyond reproach in the first place - that way nobody will have to resign. Of course if they couldn't do that my next piece of advice would be to expect the dirt to be dished by their enemies whoever they may be - tabloid newspapers, opposition parties or just those with an axe to grind......

Sadly no one can act beyond reproach - you dig deep enough in anyone's past and you'll find something.

True but nobody much cares if you or I do something wrong Seriously though, the stakes are rightly somewhat higher for those in positions of power as are the standards required and the rewards of office.

So you are saying the guy didn't act beyond reproach. Is this based on an article in a tabloid newspaper?

Or do you have other evidence that Scotland Yard might want to see?
