Craziest Award Ceremony

I have just read on teletext ITV, (2 March), that there was a ceremony in London, for the London Transport Awards, for innovations was given to a company for introducing the Two Tier Parking Penalty system,.

This is the most ridiculous scheme, l have ever heard of, penalising motorists, they porbabely used parking fine money to pay for the ceremony, they should be doing something, that improves the area, and making it cheaper for motorists to park, it is like the system that Ealing Council has brought out, it is totally crazy, it is only going to make motorist more angry, than what they are, why doesn't the authorities, say we don't want anymore vehicles on the road, we pay a great deal more in Taxes, for motorists, than any other country, it is totally absurd. and to gives awards, it makes it even more sicker.

Re: Craziest Award Ceremony

As the article states
"Under the two-tier scheme motorists causing the most disruption, frustration and danger to other road users through their illegal parking receive higher penalties than those committing other contraventions. The government is following London Councils’ example and is now seeking to roll this approach out across the country from 31 March.
The system was introduced in London following extensive consultation with the public, motoring groups and other organisations. More than 80 per cent of those who responded said people committing the most serious acts of illegal parking should be penalised more heavily than others."

Sounds fair enough to me.

Re: Craziest Award Ceremony

Sounds fine to me. Our local council won a 'Most Improved' award at it, which is either a good sign or a sign that they were really rubbish and are now less rubbish (it is a bit of an award for people who haven't won awards, I suppose). Mind you, they've just abolished a bus lane. One of their key road designers posts regularly on our local forum with travel advice and stuff about local road schemes, and sticks around to take the flak, too, so good for him.

Industry award schemes are hardly the most comprehensible thing on the planet if you're not in that industry.

Cyclists riding on pavements should be fined in my opinion.

Agreed, unless the pavement has a cycle lane on it.

Re: Craziest Award Ceremony

I'm pretty sure that the highway code states cyclists should be on the road (and have to adhere to little things like red traffic lights) unless there is a designated cycle lane on the pavement.

I thought that adults (over 16s) can't ride on the pavement unless there is a cycle lane clearly marked. As for cyclists running red lights and zebra crossings I am so tempted to knock one off his bike next time that happens to me. Im my experience a lot of cyclist are constantly moaning at drivers, yet they constantly ignore the highway code themselves.

I'd love to throw a rod into the spokes of a cyclists front wheel when I see one jump a light, just to watch the idiot somersault over and land on his face!
