				Sky HD booked, box/dish question

I just ordered Sky HD for £99 with the Sky World package. I just have a question. It's being installed Monday but I don't know if the installer will bring the box or if it will be posted.

I noticed some people get the Sky HD box and all spare cables. Does the installer leave it?

On a second note, the previous owners of our house had Sky and it must be around 3 or 4 years old as we have lived in the house around 2 years. Should I ask the installer for a new dish?

			Hi there,

Sky + & HD require a new dish, instead of the one input from the dish to box, theres two, so yep a new dish!

Box should *normally" come with engineer as will dish. Sky engineers *normally* leave the box and extra contents with you.

Thanks . Will this be a new dish or LNB? I know the previous owners had just Standard Sky.

Depends on the existing dish. If the quad LNB will fit on the existing dish then they may well re-use it. They should recheck the dish alignment.
They may well just replace the dish and start afresh.

When a lot of people I know(and myself) have had Sky+ or Sky HD installed(as an upgrade from normal Sky) the installer has used the existing dish and just swapped the single LNB for a quad.

It also depends on the contractor that Sky uses in your area, quality varies very widely between them,

Thanks for the info everyone. I will make sure to ask the installer to leave the box and spare parts.

hi scott as the others have said the sky installer will replace the LNB with a quad + check alignment 90% sure u WONT get a new dish tho lazy installer.

the installer will then run a second feed from the LNB to the location where the sky HD will go.

he will connect it all up and activate it all for you so u dont have to do anything he should even set up the HDMI cable as well.

if you dont have a viewing card you will receive one in the post.

Theres an old Sky dish on the house with a cable going into the dinning room and we want it in the living room. Will he use some double (shotgun) cable or two singles?
I hope the viewing card comes by Monday morning then . Can't wait to get Virgin TV ripped out.

If he doesn't update the box, how can I do it?

The install tech used a Figure of 8 (shotgun I guess) cable with my Sky+ install.

Hmm depends on the state of the dish though, we went from standard sky to HD and he just put a new dish on due to the length of time we had the previous one. You'll love sky HD, I do
