Just a quick question, when I eventually get upgraded will my very old Motorola 4100 take 10mb? I've had that modem for what seems like forever now and the page to check if it will work fully keeps telling me that either it will for M and L and if I click on xl it tells me I already have superfast broadband and not to worry.

Check out this VirginMedia site to see whether your modem is OK fro the 10MB upgrade.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Yesterday's Royal Mail delivery included an offer to upgrade my package from XL TV, L Broadband and phone to XL on all three for the same price i.e. £56 per month. Ten minutes after phoning my BB was at 20Mb (but delivering 7Mb which may or may not be an issue with my very old Barricade 7004BR router). So if you really don't want to wait for the 10Mb upgrade you may be able to get 20Mb for the same price you are currently paying with free UK landline phone calls thrown in as well. Nice one Virgin.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

When it comes down to it is BB Tv and phone really worth £50 a month …..I think its about time these companies get a reality check….there non essential and are not worth the money.

When I read that someone is on £86 a month I just think WoW. I’d rather put it towards a mortgage, Holiday or Car. I have my limit that I’ll pay and the £10 for Virgin BB and £17 for sky is it.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Well we were due for upgrade from 4 to 10 in February. Did speed test today with result of 4.13 rebooted cable modem and speed tests (have done several) are now reading around 5.6. Wonder if this is a normal fluctuation on the 4 speed or have we been upgraded, but aren't receiving the full 10 for some reason?

I've checked the modem on the Virgin site and it says ours should work with new speed. We do have 2 computers connected through a router which was also rebooted, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

I now know when 4 goes to 10 - in TBC. Thats a new date just invented by Virgin.

I don't understand why they put that page up - it tells you nothing!

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

It keeps the masses happy…..Plus stops continual posts or calls requesting what the upgrade status is….

It’s probably not worth the web page it written on but it does at least suggest a roll out is in progress and gives us a focus. It probably is upto date but would be great if one person just one person who must know from reports what is nearing completion.

I never understand why companies hide information even bad news for example saying that such an area has slipped would be fine. Its when Customers feel left in the dark the problems arise oh and the fact that there support staff seem to be out of the loop.

I pay £35 for telephone (evening and weekend), TV L, and BB L (which should soon be 10 megs) so i cant really complain.
