mac sharing files

Hi guys/girls im trying to share files with my friends mac but we cant seem to access each others computers. we both have Apple macbooks running tiger. i have read many articles about how easy this is, but not here. i have a linksys cable router(for my other wired macs) which is linked to a netgear wireless access point for my macbook. As musicians we would like to share large amounts of audio files with each other.i have set an account for my friend on my machine but we still cannot seem to access each others computers.
Any help please.

Are you both connected to the same router?

OK. From the top:

You've turned on file sharing in System Prefs? And when you go to Finder -> Network you cannot see your friends machine? Both machines are able to access the internet?

Re: mac sharing files

ok completely different type of networking then, people assume that you are on a network to share files not file sharing via the web

have you allowed access to the share with relevant permissions? you would be better off setting up an ftp server and letting him log into that to download files
