Need some urgant advice!
Help!
I've just been into the bathroom and there's water gushing down the light pull switch from the flat upstairs.
Ive been up and knocked on their door, but there's no-one in, and they usually go away for a few days at a time.
What do i do? its coming out quite quick, i reckon will fill the bucket up in an hour or so, and i cant stay up all night emptying the bucket.
Any adivce appreciated

Re: Need some urgant advice!
I assume there is no keyholder, such as a neighbour who can get access?

Is there a mains stopcock that is accessible that can isolate the flat? Might be one in the pavement, or even in a communal cupboard. Wouldn't stop it for a while, especially if there is a tank full that has to empty but at least it's a help.

Oh, and pull the fuse from the lighting circuit that serves your bathroom.

Re: Need some urgant advice!
Do you have an emergency cover type advice line on your insurance? It may be that they would indemnify you for the cost of breaking in on the grounds that it will minimise the damage and loss to all insurers / owners.

You dont need buildings which is what you would need for an issue like this but of the troof comes down you might wish you had contents!

Re: Need some urgant advice!
Normally with flats you will have building's cover under a block policy. If you are a tenant, your landlord is normally responsible for this, especially if you are only on the 6 or 12 month shorthold type schemes.
You are however responsible for your contents, whether that be a loss from fire, explosion, theft, or flood! Some of those policies have add ons for cover such as accidental damage, legal advice and the like. Still all insurance is a gamble as to whether or not you might need it, compared to the premium you have to pay.

Buildings and contents costs nothing anyway IMO, considering the ammount you are insured for..

I'd have been worried about the bathroom ceiling coming down - imo get someone from the management company to have a look at that for you??
Good news that they managed to get in touch with 'him upstairs', though

Re: Need some urgant advice!
Also get yourself over to www.confused.com and get some contents insurance mate - we paid £63 this year for £40,000 worth of cover. Nothing really.
