Re: Woolworths withdraws inappropriately named bed..
On the flip side, how many people here would want to buy a car called Christine?

Re: Woolworths withdraws inappropriately named bed..
Eh? PC madness would be banning the book, surely? It isn't banned, as far as I know. Anyone else read it? Quite a good read, I thought. Nabokov's Ada is quite good too, being mainly about underage incest, but I don't see people calling for the programming language to be renamed...

Re: Woolworths withdraws inappropriately named bed..
It's just a stupid thing to do. Like naming a stove Adolf. Yes, it's just a name, but it's wholely inappropriate and unnecessary.

Re: Woolworths withdraws inappropriately named bed..
I think IKEA ought to withdraw all their products with inappropriate names.
Oh, just a minute, that would be all of them then...

well, i originally thought this, and when i first saw the name, i thought it was just that, a girls name
i was involved in a debate about it at the time, and was called some choice names for not knowing (i seriously have never heard of the book or film)
then i was told that child pornography is known as loli porn (but didnt know this either)
so i think its bad marketing on their part, i dont think any malice was intended ... at least i hope not

And do you have a source for this piece of outstanding info?
Lolita is just a name. Nothing more. Nothing less.

well i was told it, by the person who was accusing me of being "thick, naive, stupid" because i'd never heard of this so called term for it before.
i dont think it helped though, that i said it was quite a nice name

Re: Woolworths withdraws inappropriately named bed..
I don't think it makes any difference as Woolies don't actually sell anything: everything on the shelves bears a "Temporarily out of stock" sticker.
