Hi Folks

I'm hoping for some advice here.

My youngest son managed to set his bottle on top of our additional box last firday. It is an 8 year old box and was moved up stairs after we got V+ downstairs. The bottle leaked and the box blew with a few flashes etc so cannot be re connected as I deem it to dangerous.

Being honest I reported this to VM yesterday to be told that I would be charged £250.00 for a replacement box. Given that I have had this box since 2002 moving house once since that time and taking the box with me I find this out-standing that I'm asked to pay for something this old after an accident.

I'm told by VM to claim of my house insurance! One rep did tell me yesterday told me to upgrade the additional box to V+ and I would only pay £75 but today I was informed that this was incorrect.

Where do I stand with this? I obviously want not to pay for something which was an accident and don't want to ruin my home insurance on a stupid £250 claim!

Any advice welcome, If I'm stuffed I'm thinking back to BT the only thing that kept me with VM was the broadband anyway.........

the standard charge to any sub who accidentally breaks their box is £250 unfortunately the only way you can recoup this is through your home insurance),the £250 is for the new box that VM are going to have to supply to replace the damaged one. ( if you were on sky for so long and this happened you would have to buy a new box yourself,no questions asked)

Re: Options

So being honest does not pay!

Seems had I reported this as a fault where by the box is not working it would have probably have been replaced for free!

Thank you for the heads up.

Re: Options

Yes, unfortunately I have to agree, it wasn't Virgin Media's fault that you accidently broke their box. You have to replace it and theor standard charge is £250. Your only recourse is to your home insurance. You do have a valid claim after all.

Re: Options

Cool Beans - it was worth a try anyway! £250.00 seems a lot for a box that is 8 years old, its almost like buying a car writing it off then being asked to repay the full value after 8 years.........

Insurance look out here I come!

Re: Options

Personally, Id have let it dry upside down for a few days, then tried it. (Letting things dry and not powering them on until they are dry does work sometimes. Ive done it many times.)

If it didnt work, Id have then reported it as a fault, claiming youve had it x amount of years.

Perhaps my stupidity for playing an honest game!

What worries me about trying it is the fact its in the kids room, it flashed and went pop a few times according to my other half! I was in Scotland when it happened........

what it requires to be fixed (to get your tv services going again) is a brand new replacement box,or are you prepared to pay for the cost of fixing it and then stand the time it will take to get it back?? youd probably be peed at paying the bill while it took 3 weeks to get your box off to get fixed and back again!! i know its a shitter and like you said youd probably have gotten away with it if you hadnt rang them, but you did,so,in my humble opinion, youd be best to crack on with the insurance claim and have VM come and fit you a nice shiny new samsung (if they bring a pace tell em to F off)

Yes, firstly it wont work as the Card and box arn't registered to your account. And If it has been chipped (legal issues there too), if there is a fault at any point in the future they wont touch it so you've lost your money you've spent

Also technically it is stolen goods, as the user is entitled to sell it. Which would mean you would be handling stolen goods.

Best left alone IMHO

Re: Options

Cancel the subs for the second box and ask that they take it away, then reconnect in a few months
