V Box fitted Saturday - still not working

Hi all,

This is my first post and hope someone can help.

Had V box fitted Sat morning. Programmed it to record a programme for a couple of hours later. The red light was on so I assume it's recorded ok. After that I couldn't do anything. No channel change, no menu. Phoned Virgin and was told a problem in my area. Waited till Sun am, phoned again - "No, the problems you are having are not affected by the area problem, that's a different area". She then tested things her end. Nothing worked so an engineer was booked for Mon afternoon. He turned up, pulled the box out to check cables on the back and it WORKED!! He couldn't see what the problem had been and I explained that that worried me as if the 'problem' hadn't been fixed, it could happen again. Anyway, he went and within 3 minutes of him leaving it all siezed up again - I swear I could see his van leaving my road!! So another engineer is coming tomorrow morning. I'm dreading it all happening again.

Don't know what any of you can do to be honest - I'm just anxious.

Have you tried the reset button or a power cycle?

When the box is on go into the settings page press home then settings no.8 the no.6 tech stuff on the second page there will the 3 tuners with pre and pose err and the snr of the tunners .What do these say as this would give us a indication of what the box is doing .

Hi - thanks for the welcome

Tried the reset button a few times, only time I can change a channel is after doing that, and I can only change a channel once each time after reset!

By 'power cycle' do you mean turning off at the mains and leaving for 20 seconds?

bonhomie,i have the resolution to all of your problems (i think) the scart lead from the V+ box is in the wrong output slot.make sure scart to TV is coming from the TOP slot of the V+ box and get back to me

I can't access anything

Nothing happens when I press 'guide' or 'home' or 'V+' buttons.

In fact only thing I can do is turn the damn thing off and on again!

I got all excited then!

It is in the correct place. The engineer who came today looked at that too. I have scarts to my video too.

Thanks though.

This is doing my head in - I had my old ntl box taken away to have this so now I can't watch any digi channels.

It only worked for 2 hours after first being fitted on Sat and I managed (at least I think I did) to record a programme - can't play it back though as no access to guide etc.,

Grrrrrrrrr

This is my cue to admit I'm not very technical! Do you think it could be a problem scart then? I haven't got another one.

will make notes of everything you've said though and show them to the engineer tomorrow.

Just dreading it working while he's here again and then buggering up when he's gone. I'll seriously lose my rag if that happens again.

There's picture. I'm managing to watch terrestrial programmes 1 - 5 via av channel, and the programme the V box is set on (Can't change it unless I reset each time).

Swap the scarts around if you dont have a spare one but make sure the top scart on the V+ goes straight to the tv .It could be somthing simple lets hope the tech can find the fault if you dont tonight

Re: V Box fitted Saturday - still not working

Probably daft question ... do the buttons on the front of the box let you change channel etc ?

Good Luck
