Manchester baggage handling jobs to go...
Quote:
BBC News
The airport had planned to reduce the size of its baggage handling operation last year, blaming fierce competition in the field.
Officials have now said it is not possible to salvage any part of the business, meaning all handling jobs at Ringway Handling Services Ltd will go.

Well, I hope the competition improves the turnaround time, rather than worsens it. Manchester is the worst airport I've ever used when it comes to baggage retrieval time. Always over an hour from disembarking, even in the dead of night.
Much larger airports, home & abroad, manage it far quicker...

St. Pancras International manage to do it in the time it takes to get from your seat to the luggage rack at the end of the coach...
[serious point here - it's not just the extended check in times and securohassle that are turning people off short-haul flights, it's waiting for your bags, too]

Re: Manchester baggage handling jobs to go...
I was there a couple of weeks ago, the airport was really busy and it was raining cats and dogs... think it was about 10/15 mins for my luggage.
On a side note... worst sign posted airport ever!

Re: Manchester baggage handling jobs to go...
I use Manchester perhaps half dozen times a year and I've never experienced any excessive wait times at for luggage, however: T1 seems to have been in a constant state of refurbishment for the past 10 years. Either finish it or level it and just get it over with!

Re: Manchester baggage handling jobs to go...
Guess I'm just unlucky then, unless there's a difference between charter & scheduled.
If I fly anywhere on business it's usually only for a day or so & I only take cabin baggage. Therefore I couldn't comment on scheduled service baggage wait times.
Whenever I've been charter from Manchester it's always an hour or more...

Blimey I'd be feeling a bit paranoid then. Makes you wonder if they're rifling through your bags for some reason

This translates to...
We dont want to employ people in house anymore despite making millions of pounds profit.
We want more profit.
We are managers and therefore we dont want to do anything to threaten our cosy work life and all the benefits we enjoy.
Therefore as pooh flows downhill.we look down ,we will outsource our baggae handling, TUPE the existing workforce to a holding company and additionally, make them feel threatened by an good dollop of migrant labour.
