Wireless Connection Help

Hello there,

Im seriously struggling trying to create a wireless network to my router, i've nearly searched the whole net, and decided to post here, and hopfuly get my problem answered. I've been trying to get it wireless for the past 2 months, but no luck.

So, here goes.

I have a NTL (Company now purchased by Virgin Media) cable modem, it's hooked directly upto the Peak Wireless 56kps router. With 2 computers under the router. The laptop is connected to the router with ethernet and same with the main desktop it is also connected by ethernet. The router is wireless, and I later noticed that the laptop had a wireless adapter build in.

The Laptop has "IEEE 1394" wireless adapter built in (states "1394 Net Adapter" on Device Manager), which I believe can connect to the internet and has been done by others before. But I can't seem to create the wireless connection nor am I close.

So, I go onto my router admisitrator panel, and set-up the wireless settings, and then notthing happens on the laptop, notthing at all. And from what I know, it doesn't have the "Wireless Network Connection 2" program, which usualy appers at the bottom task bar as a little icon.

I can't think of any other details to include, if you require more, please ask which and what. Thank you very much.

1394 Net Adapter refers to a Firewire port NOT a wireless connection.

Go buy a USB wireless adapter for the laptop, unless the laptop manual says it has wireless built in?

Make and model of the laptop will help diagnose if it has got wireless built in, but i would expect it to pop up saying it has found a wireless router if it did.

1. Click Start and Run
2. Type into the Run box "services.msc" (without the quotation).
3. Scroll down and look for the service Wireless Zero Configuration
4. Make sure that it is Started and that the startup type is set to automatic.

No Windows Zero Configuration Service at all.
Use Windows regedit, drill down.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WZCSVC
Add a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2".

Note, if you are Not familiar with regedit do not try to use it without knowledgeable support.

perhaps the wireless network card isnt installed properly.
name and model as asked earlier woudl help
