So if YOUR DNS server doesn't have an address in it's database, where does it go to obtain the IP number? I guess you must have a forwarding DNS server in your list.

Re: Open DNS and its benefits
I tried it and didn't notice any real difference. In fact, I noticed on one or two sites images wouldn't load anymore until I switched back to the normal automatically assigned DNS.

Re: Open DNS and its benefits
Sky's DNS tend to return errors so I've had it set up on one computer. No problems noticed.

Re: Open DNS and its benefits
Any "speed improvements" are mostly in your mind. Your PC only needs to look up the ip address of a site once, it then caches it locally. It won't make any difference to how fast a site loads other then the slight delay when you first visit it.

Re: Open DNS and its benefits
Well if you visit many different sites those slight delays will add up. But yes, you need to be aware when to look for the difference.

Re: Open DNS and its benefits
Dont make any difference really, this page still took 11.326seconds to load, so much for downloading a music track in 2 seconds, thats false advertising if ever I saw it!!!

dns has nothing to do with download speeds, as said previously it only matters with resolving the domain name and thats usually only done once per site so won't help in speeding up browing as once you visit the site, you have the IP cached locally
