iv not bothered to look up their wireless licence agreement but its generally assumed that the average WiMax base station coverage is 30 miles+ given an agreed commercial power level.
perhap they are running on minimal power right now, or they can easly reach your area but not telling yet, as they havent built up the infrastructure/servers etc so far perhaps.

BIG ,probably one of biggest CE's in the country (out sourced/managed and run by the private 'willow park' now though).
and as it says, 'garden city' is exactly that ,every house has a garden/front and back. and lots of them, plus lots of public grassy spaces etc, alas no real jobs to speak of other than the airport and 'wythenshawe hospital' (the very first hart transplant in the UK was done there).
and the council sold off much of the schools and large shopping centers (were people could work and learn)to housing associations so they could know down the old and build new far smaller houses for new familys (that then need the old schools and the shops......
).

i wonder what they mean 'Manchester Completion', as it stands wythenshawe is as flat as your likely to see and only the odd building here and there, other than the airport and civic center are above your average 3 bedroom house or 3 story flats, some of the trees are taller but not by much....
the airport with it massive international traffic can take all the bandwidth they can muster alone id think, not to mention all the potential VM houses passed that might take (mobile)wireless instead.., so i dont get it why they dont setup there ready to turn on/up the power and get 30 miles+ coverage when their ready and built out, strange.

ohh , now BT are looking at the UK wireless spectrum fire-sale.
perhaps BT or even SKY will try and buy some of it up, and rent it out to the likes of 'Virgin Media', and 'freds local VISP' to recoop costs until their ready to use it themselves ?.

Ofcom released further details on its planned release of radio spectrum in the 2.0GHz and 2.6GHz region today, which Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards said would be, "The UK's largest single release of spectrum suitable for a range of new wireless services including WiMax.”
Richard said that the spectrum would be released, “On a technology and service neutral basis allowing firms to decide how best to use the spectrum within certain minimum technical specifications to prevent harmful interference.”
In a statement Ofcom said that it is, “Consulting on detailed rules for auctioning the spectrum in order to offer the maximum flexibility in the way that the bands can be used.” A statement will be made in early 2008 and the ongoing
consultation closes on 1 Feb next year.
There are industry rumours that
BT will be bidding for the spectrum in an effort to join the ranks of the mobile operators again. When contacted about the auction,
a BT spokesperson said, “We are aware of the ‘WiMax’ auction but the official line is that no decision has yet being taken on whether we would be bidding for radio spectrum.”
