Re: xp sp2 and modem compatibility

failing that you can reset the TCP/IP stack back to it's default state by doing the following from a command line (Microsoft in their infinte wisdom decided to make TCP/IP uninstallable in XP)

netsh int ip reset > reset.txt

Re: xp sp2 and modem compatibility

If this doesn't work chances are something on the PC is stopping it communicating with DHCP ie software.

You could try
netsh winsock reset
to reset the winsock catalogue as well but other than the TCP/IP reset which i'm sure is
netsh int ip reset reset.txt
(or whatever you want to call the text file) there's no other real way.

Unless you mind posting a HijackThis logfile, which still isn't guaranteed to work, I'd be inclined to consider a reinstall of Windows then installing SP2 again without having installed anything else. It can be fussy.

Re: xp sp2 and modem compatibility

eh?

It was a clean install of windows xp pro sp2 from a disk no an upgrade! first thing i did after install was try to connect. nowt!

Would it be easier to flog my samsung k3 mp3 player which uses MTP and buy a usb mass storage one instead which doesn't need sp2 to run MTP?
