I've taken your advice and update the firmware on the router... a couple of new features seem to be in the configuration pages but I'll look at those another day. In the meantime the network was still being rather slow.
I'm also having system lockup issues which I'm discussing in this thread
here. One of the things I'm finding with this problem is that the latest WLAN drivers for my laptop appear to be causing the system lockups. Maybe this is an issue with the speed as well?
One other thing I need to get my head around is the different nomenclature I'm seeing with regard to network speeds. 54Mbps... 5.4MB/sec... I'm guessing Mbps is Mega bits per second and MB/sec is Mega Bytes per second, and so with 8bits to a byte when windows task manager tells me I am transferring data across the WLAN at 2MB/sec tha roughly translates to 16Mbps?
