Question Forgotten NTL password

Can anyone help?

A neighbour of mine has forgotten his password to his ntlworld e-mail account, but when he clicks on the link for 'Forgot your password' it takes him to a page that says "enter your e-mail address and we will post the password to your e-mail".

Is it just me, or does this make no sense?

What is the point in sending the password to the e-mail acoount that he can't get into because he has forgotten the password?

Re: Forgotten NTL password

Tell him to call CS (and you might want to give him some of those stress thingies that teachers get), and ask if they can give him a temporary password.

Re: Forgotten NTL password

It's the same system hotmail uses if you don't specify a secondary email address for contact. not the best system in the world for obvious reasons.

Re: Forgotten NTL password

he could put any valid e-mail address in to retrieve his password as long as he is able to access it.

he could, for example send it to your e-mail address and then ask you to retrieve it for him, then resetting his password. Depends how much you trust each other!!

re-setting the password is very easy and anyone in CS should be able to do this for you...
it really is a matter of asking some security questions adn then typung over the existing password!

however they might try and fob you off to tech support! if so it may be advisable to try calling cs a couple of times... as tech support is 25ppm and they will not refund for this type of issue!

hope this helps!

someone correct me if im wrong but as far as i know you cannot put any valid email address in as this would leave the system open to hacking/abuse

Re: Forgotten NTL password

Set up an account at Oink.co.uk (give them a load of rubbish as details who would connect to ) After all, what is the chance that it would A) be hacked in to B) the hacker knowing what it relates to. Once he has it. Get in to his E mail & then change the password again. This time remember it!!
