Re: Laptop problem
If you send a VGA cable from the Monitor Out port to another monitor (its a blue male connector), then it should display.
If it does not, check your Fn modifier keys (usually the F keys), there is probably one to control the output. Set it so it does not display anything on the inbuilt screen, but does on the external (may be called projector).

Re: Laptop problem
There might be an IN port, you wont be able to do that, because the in port would be female methinks.
You could pick up a cheap CRT monitor from ebay maybe, for about a tenner.

Try ebay.... or maybe your house insurance might cover it if you have accidental damage cover.
if its got a Vga or DVI out you could use it with an external monitor but most laptop displays use non standard connections so only work in the model of laptop they were made for.
I suppose if you were good with microelectronics you may be able find the inputs on the 2nd laptop display and the corresponding outputs on on the laptop and Build a convertor of sorts, but it would be a lot of work for not much gain.

Re: Laptop problem
You could always download vnc onto both laptops.
Such a useful piece of software that I keep it on my webspace.
www.mlweb.co.uk/software/
Make sure you add a good password though especially if your not behind a router.
You'll need to connect it to a normal computer screen to install it but after that you can fire up both machines, use vnc to connect to the one with the busted screen and put vnc into full screen, it will be 100% what your looking for.

I have a Inspiron 8100 at the moment with a broken display and was also told by a repair shop it would cost 250 to 300 pounds to sort it.
Go onto ebay as i have and you may find one on the cheap.
