amarok OSX

Not having much success so far getting the Osx port of this great media player working

Thought id try the mac kde4...
Downloaded the torrent, left it running overnight (its 3gb) only after doing about 300mb my macbook crashed

So set it to downloade again this morning before I left for work.
Got back to find it had done.... tried to install it, installed the libs.etc to find it doesn't work on my mac anyway it just locks up.

Deleted KDE4 mac and now attempting installation from Fink (on the upside this will at least be the 1.4x release im used to and not the 2.x dev releases)

Some howto I read said 10hours to compile on a 1ghz g4 powerbook wander how long it will take my macbook (cd 1.83)

Hope the mac port (if i ever get it running) plays all the formats the linux version does.

Re: amarok OSX

Is there no VLC for Mac? That's a fantastic player imo!

I don't like VLC much for music

Sorry when I said media I ment Audio rather than video, i use it on my desktop and would like to use the same thing on the mac since IMO there's a distint lack of good media players on OSX since most people seem to just use itunes (which I don't like that much)

And yes VLC is fantastic since it plays most things.

Now, I don't really know much at all about compiling, but are you downloading the right stuff to make a file for your G4 and not an intel? (Assuming there's even a difference!)

Re: amarok OSX

A lot of programs should have Universal Binaries now anyway meaning that they will run natively on both CPUs and not require Rosetta

The architecture should depend on whats passed to the compiler and It *should* compile it for the intel cpu, I can't see why it wouldn't.

I don't think universal binaries come into play here since its not a native mac app.

Re: amarok OSX

You don't want to compile for Intel if you're using a G4 ... ?

I mentioned the 10hours since I read it on the internet, hopefully the intel will be a lot quicker.
