ADSL24 - this is the life
So I migrated today after 12 days of shockingly poor speeds and service and the difference is amazing.
I can play online games again, pings are >20 instead of 220, I've been downloading the Unreal Tournament 3 demo at a steady 500kb/s, instead of the 10kb/s I was getting on Virgin at "peak times". Thats strange because I was told that all networks have the speed problems at peak times.
This time yesterday it was struggling to stream youtube videos, now today, I hvae no problems.
The problem clearly is with VM, so anyone sick of your crap service, do what I did and get out as soon as you can.
Sure you might say speed tests arent reliable but how is it most people on VM are getting the speeds like in the top picture?
But I'm happy with my service now, so seeya later!

Re: ADSL24 - this is the life
Hi TobyLee
Glad to hear you are happy with your new provider.
The last time I dipped my toe into ADSL ( albeit with the infamous V21 ) I found my connection was fine for the first few days maybe even weeks (it was a while ago), there after getting slower and slower until grinding to an unusable status after a short while.
V21 were migrating all their customers from BT to Telefonica at the time but I was (supposed) to be on BT IPstream(?) so shouldn't have been affected.
Anyway please let us know how your new provider's connection is faring as time progresses say after a week or two.
If it's not too much trouble, and as a matter of interest, what sort of speeds are you getting with your new provider for single threaded downloads from sites in the US.

Re: ADSL24 - this is the life
I forgot to add this was Virgin Media ADSL not cable, unfortunately my area doesn't have cable yet so I had to go with ADSL.
Obviously it's ADSL that has more of the problems and not cable.
As for downloading speeds, I downloaded the UT3 demo at around 400-500kb/s, the Call Of Duty 4 demo 500-700kb/s and I've just finished downloading the Ratchet and Clank demo which I estimated it was downloading at round the same speeds.

Re: ADSL24 - this is the life
Speedtest.net needs an update to detect VM rather than NTL

Re: ADSL24 - this is the life
Well two weeks on since leaving Virgin still getting 4.5 Mb solid which is 1Mb faster than was my old cable account and for the same price unlimted telephone calls and a shiny new lap top thrown in and wireless router. I knew I Wasn't going get to the full 8Mb due to my distance from exchange but so far very happy. Its wonderful to be able to find pages that actually download quickly now. Will drop buy in a few months time and let you know how I am getting on.
