Is this monitor good value or?

I was looking at monitors, as mine is a VGA monitor, and I was looking for a DVi monitor.

I stumbled upon this new release, that must have sold like hot cakes because now you can only pre-order it.

Its got 2ms reponse, extremely high contrast, high resolution (1680x1050), DVi, SCART, HDMI, composite...basically all the connections you'll need, so providing you've got all the other equipment, like a set top box and a console, it will act as a screen for all of that. Its wall mountable and everything, but it looks too cheap to be true from the other monitors I've been looking at, at £215.

Then again I have not really looked into it too much, what do you lot think?

I can't comment on the monitor specifically but my last TV was Samsung. It too seemed to be a lot of TV for the money. The picture was alright but the audio quality proved to be dire, it used to rattle if you turned the volume up past a certain point.

It lasted just a few days over 12 months when the colours went all smeary. It made it impossible to watch and to be truthful I was glad to have an excuse to dump it.

They say you get what you pay for. I make it a rule to, knowingly, stay well away from Samsung and Sony products these days. I know Sony are not particularly cheap but I have other reasons for boycotting them.

Although it doesn't have some of the TV scart and related connections, as a PC monitor you can't do much better. There is an equivalent from LG too - that's the one I have, and it's great

It used to be that while Sony was considered to be more expensive than other brands you bought a Sony product and you got a well designed well built product.

Now you get the same cheap junk everyone else is selling but they still charge a premium for it

not to dis your experience, Mick Fisher, but the Samsung 17" WS LCD monitor I got around 3 years ago, is still doing a good job for Mrs Gaz, the ones linked are nearly good enough to change, but not quite, yet

I am interested in it coming with a HDMI connection though, just if I ever get anything like a console, I wont need to mess about getting a DVI converter which I know arent cheap.

I'll have another look, unless there is a decent HDMI - DVI converter? I believe they will both be able to send HD quality.

I've been looking for a new monitor for about two weeks now and the Samsung SM226BW 22" TFT Monitor that Rob suggested is recommended by PC Pro but is cheaper here http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125099. This seems to tick all the boxes in this price range. But if you want to use it as a TV and a PC monitor then your choice is better because the SM226BW has no TV tuner. The only drawback is the speakers.Monitor speakers rarely give good sound quality. So the choices are obvious if its a pc monitor you want and you have a good sound card I'd go with the SM226BW. If you want TV and a pc monitor go with your choice. There is one small dark cloud on SM226BW horizon and its here, http://www.behardware.com/articles/6...e-verdict.html but if you go to the conclusions at page 10 on this review you will see that the difference is small.It also lists a number of monitors that it is compared with and the Samsung SM226BW comes out as good as or better than most other monitors in this class so even if you get the A class instead of the S class I think you are getting a good monitor and almost certainly better than the one you first suggested if its just for PC use

I have to agree with you.
I have always been pleased with Samsung TV's and monitor's, for their long life and also quality of colour and brightness.

I know that some Samsung LCD's have not the best sound out of them but you may as well hook the TV up to your hifi or Av amp.

Its been cut and pasted (well the first model number has and the remaining text is then the same size)

Samsung montiors look good.

I have a 204B, HOWEVER, it took Samsung 6 months to get it working. Apparently it wasnt up to the speed i was driving it at which highlighted a design defect which meant the screen kept blacking out.

Looking into it, I would only require Composite, if I was ever to connect a console, and not a HDMI.

That means the 22" that Rob recommended is more than likely going to be ordered some time soon, as that has DVI and Composite connections.

press control & + and you can make the text as large as you require press control and - to make it as small as you require
