Router + WAP networking help?
Hello everyone, i'm really tearing my hair out over this so hopefully someone can help me!
I got my virgin media cable a couple of days ago but haven't been able to set it up to work over wireless. I have the standard virgin cable modem, which i have plugged in to my router (Linksys BEFVP41). This router is then plugged into an ADSL wireless router (Actiontec/Qwest GT701-WG) which i'm just using as a wap.
The linksys router (which i have set to 192.168.1.1) is set up to detect the modem through DHCP, and the "DHCP server" setting has been turned on. When i plug a cable in to the router and set it to detect ip settings, i can surf the internet fine, it assigns me an 82.x.x.x ip address.
The wireless router (which i have set to 192.168.1.2) has the dsl and dhcp turned off. When i connect to this wireless network on any of my pcs it just assigns me a 192.168.1.x ip address and i am unable to surf. I can log in to the router and the wireless router through this connection though, so it definitely can see the router + wap.
Can anyone help with this? I don't want to have to shell out for a wireless cable modem :-(
