Re: Toddler 'abducted' during holiday
I for one, think that the Portugal police should get off there backside. and start looking properly for Maddie, instead of accusing the McCann's for the disappearance, if people can turn back several months when this first happened, there was an item surrounding a couple in the same situation where a girl went missing, the mother is now in prison for life for her murder, there is NO body and she strongly denies it so does her husband, and the police stopped looking after TWO weeks, and yet she is still in prison, doesn't this ring a bell with Maddie situation, l would suggest a BRITISH lawyer, with Portugese accent go over and represent the McCann.s as she is still a BRITISH subject, and deserves to be treated properly, as they cannot find anymore evidence, what about the person who was SEEN carrying a child from the apartment, what about that, in my heart, l don't believe they had anything to do with the disappearance, so here is a message to those officals, go look for the REAL suspects.

And what IF they are guilty? Would you still believe they are innocent? What good is your belief if you have no hard evidence / proof to back it up. Does that mean every person that is of a similiar background is automatically innocent just because you have an instinct? Why is that?
It's good to get other opinions thats for sure, but no one can say anything either way till the facts come out one way or another.

Until there's evidence to the contrary, I don't think that's particularly fair.

There’s plenty of evidence to prove that the police there were completely out of there depth with both the investigation and the surrounding media circus and imo could justifiably be called a shower, even if anything does come of this it will be due to British police

Possibly. I'm reserving judgment on the performance of the Portuguese Police at the moment.

Re: Toddler 'abducted' during holiday
I wish to answer several questions that have been made to my comments, there is NO proof that there is a murder, all we know is that Maddie is missing, remember there is an organisation that relates to Courts involving mistrials in all parts of the world, in injustices, so far the Portugese have acted in a manner that is like a film of Inspector Clousoe, or whatever his name is, when a child goes missing in a foriegn country, they don't give a damn, and we have seen this in various countries, ie for child slavery, for the sickies of this world, and what annoys me, is that we have a case where all the police are going on, is a rented car that was hired 25 days later, with blood samples found in the car, if the McCanns had hired that car, it would have been a ,million to one, that would have been the car that they had, and if they had done a nasty crime, why did they stay in the country, when they could have fled home, until there is a body found, then l will still believe she is alive, and the strangest thing is, that who ever does have the poor child, maybe she could be found, so that the portugese police will have eggs on there faces for the farce that is being produced at the moment.

Re: Toddler 'abducted' during holiday
As someone said to me tonight this has all kicked off since the mccanns talked about returning to the UK so maybe this has speeded up the portugese police rather then them having nothing whatsoever to go on. Same old same old we know nothing till someone that does know for sure tells us but this is not looking good right now.

You see, if I was in court, I'd like a jury made up of people who didn't hear a couple of 'facts' and make up their minds that's I'm guilty anyway without knowing the rest of the evidence.
Call me strange if you like, but I kind of figured that how the trial by twelve men good and true system worked.

Both the parents of missing Madeleine McCann are now formal suspects in her disappearance.

I don't want to get into a debate about the jury system, I have sat on one and I wasn't impressed.

We don't know that that is all the evidence they have against Kate McCann. The Portuguese police don't disclose their findings to the general public, so there could be more evidence that we don't know about.
Having said that, the blood samples found in the car that was rented 25 days after Madeleine's disappearance does appear to be a bit strange. Are the police suggesting that Kate McCann killed Madeleine, hid her body for 25 days, then used a hired car to dispose of it elsewhere?
Sounds a bit bizarre.

Under Portuguese law you can request to be made a formal suspect, chances are it needed to be done so they could offer her the deal and I believe they have to name you if they want to ask you direct questions about guilt. It doesn't really mean much to me, if they had charged her obviously it would be different

Why stop there? Force the Portuguese to speak proper English, they are dealing with a BRITISH subject after all.
We all saw our very own Ian Blair: his fluency in the Portuguese language was remarkable, explaining the bullets in the head of innocent Jean Charles de Menezes, a BRAZILIAN subject (Portuguese mother tongue)

I see no problem with the McCanns are getting whatever legal and other assistance is normally afforded to British citizens overseas including ensuring they are being properly represented legally and that translators are being made available when required. The UK has a very good record of providing translators to those living/visiting here who don't speak English. Ian Bliar's linguistic ability is irrelevant.

I'm not really surprised if you applied the same blasé attitude to listing to both prosecution and defence arguments.
