USB Turntables
I'm thinking of getting one of those USB turntables so I can put all my records and tapes onto CD.
Can anyone recommend a particular turntable please?
I'm using Windows XP Media edition and understand there might be problems getting it to work. Anybody had that experience?
Any useful information would be greatly welcomed. TIA.

Re: USB Turntables
USB, or a turntable with integrated AUX pre-amp to soundcard.
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5124998.htm - a lot cheaper than the USB way, uses the existing soundcard/onboard.
One warning I'l give for this model, it has preset speeds and practically useless adjusters, so if it ain't right, send it straight back - also listen carefully for speed variations, a friend had to get one replaced because of that.

Re: USB Turntables
Costco are doing one for about 65 quid I think right now. Can't vouch for the quality.

Re: USB Turntables
The Guardian advertise them as a Readers' Offer for £99 - in fact, I think I saw an advert in today's paper.

Re: USB Turntables
If you already have an amplifier with a phono stage I would steer clear of these usb turntables and go for a secondhand "proper" turntable like a Rega Planar 3 and some decent quality cables to hook up to the line ins on your sound card.

A couple more to add to the mix. But I have no experience of either.

Re: USB Turntables
ION do one. I don't know how good it is, but I have an ION USB Mixing Deck and have no complaints over the quality of that.

Re: USB Turntables
Would you not be better off finding a half decent turntable on ebay say a Dual or Rega P1 and a battery operatyed phono amp and plugging that into your sound card.
