Sony Memory Cards

Back in November 2005 I bought a 512MB Sony MemoryStick Pro on the Internet for £38 (incl P&P). Last August I bought a 1GB MemoryStick Pro for £33 (incl P&P), again on the Internet.

As I've decided I needed even more memory (don't we all!), I popped into our local Curry's today and asked their price. I expected the usual expensive quote but I was rather staggered to be told that a 512MB MemoryStick Pro was only £4.99. Although I was after a 1GB card I decided to strike while the iron was hot and bought a couple. I've just been checking on Amazon, and the cheapest there seems to be about £10 without P&P.

So, what is happening with Sony memory prices? When I bought a Sony camera in 2005 I was a bit hesitant because Sony was rather notorious for the price of its memory being significantly higher than SD. When I asked the chap in Curry's he muttered something about them becoming out of date. Mind, after he'd suggested a Lexmark card that would have only fitted into my camera with the aid of a hammer, I took this with a pinch of salt!

The downside (for my wife, least) is that I can now take hundreds and hundreds of pictures on holiday. Yippee!

Re: Sony Memory Cards

Lol fair play mate. Memory prices have been crashing for a while now. Some of the main manufacturers in asia have had a lot of trouble over price fixing and its all good for the consumer

Re: Sony Memory Cards

All you with sony memory stick, pro duo m2 etc. It is worth noting that sandisk developed these with sony and normally bring out their own version slightly after the official sony version and it is always cheaper for the exact same thing.

Re: Sony Memory Cards

It's true that some places do really charge a lot.
Some shops and catologues charge about £34 for a 512mb stick still.

I've found getting them from play.com is the best for prices.
eg. 2GB = £17.99

edit: Doh! Beaten to it.

Re: Sony Memory Cards

I recently got 2x2Gb Pro sticks for £12ish each (inc P+P) from eBay, and 2x1Gb Pro duos (with adapters) for £6ish each (inc P+P) again from eBay.

The long Pro sticks are now defunct and you have to buy Pro Duo with an adapter.

I asked the seller of some Pro sticks if he had a carrying cases for them... he immediately put up some solid cases (aluminium case with rubber lining for 8 Pro/Pro Duo stcks for £6).
