Belkin router problems

Can anyone help with this?
We have Virgin Media broadband and are trying to network a second PC in with a Belkin wireless router but the second PC won't pick anything up.
Both the router and the adapter seem set up ok but there is still no joy.

Re: Belkin router problems

Can both PCs see each other on the network? Can you access the router from both PCs? What model Belkin router is it you are using?

PC 1, which is connected directly to the wireless router (Belkin model no. F5D7230-4), and which is running XP, cannot see PC 2, which is running Vista and is connected to a USB adaptor (Belkin model no. F5D7051) and can see PC 1. Have downloaded the LLTD responder for PC 1, yet still can't connect PC 2 to it.

Re: Belkin router problems

If the second PC is hard wired to the router can it connect to the internet? Are both PCs on the same workgroup/ domain?

Re: Belkin router problems

The second PC is wireless, the first PC is hard wired. Not sure about the domain question - can you elaborate?

Re: Belkin router problems

Normally for PCs to see each other on the network they have to be in the same workgroup or domain

As I asked ... if you were to hardwire PCs (temporarily) would it connect to the internet?

Re: Belkin router problems

Automatically I am thinking maybe this is a Belkin / Vista driver problem.. could be wrong.

Anyway to hardwire the 2nd pc to the router just to check connectivity ?

Re: Belkin router problems

Have renamed both computers the same. No joy. Another problem is that the wireless light on the router often goes off. Don't suppose that helps!

Re: Belkin router problems

Erm you don't rename the computers the same you put them into the same workgroup. If 2 computers share a name on a network you can have issues. Does the wireless indicator on the router stay off? If it's flashing it is normal.

Re: Belkin router problems

Make sure both pc's are enabled for sharing. I have Vista ultimate, xp, and 2K pro all running fine on a F5D7230-4. Make sure the shares are fine then run the xp network wizard see how you get on.

No need for a wizard with Vista as it networks automatically.
