Re: London bomb made safe
Wow - I don't often say this nowadays but well done to the police!
Hopefully there will be plenty of evidence that the offenders were expecting to be blown up...

Re: London bomb made safe
Mmmmm, I'll keep an open mind on this one. Untill this
" potentially viable explosive device "
Is made clearer, they're not saying it is / was a bomb, we'll see

Exactly, they have not said it was a bomb or indeed an explosive, just potentially viable Seems to me that that covers a whole lot of things
The title of the thread couldn't be more misleading, should have said suspected !!

IMO, if were that, then they would have chosen another statement, I think this is gonna turn out to be something completely innocent. At least I hope so, we'll see

Sadly it looks anything but innocent
Officers carried out a controlled explosion after reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in The Haymarket shortly before 0200 BST (0100 GMT).
The immediate area was cordoned off while police examined what they described as a "potentially viable explosive device".
There are unconfirmed reports that gas canisters were removed from the back of the car, close to Piccadilly Circus

Re: London bomb made safe
Isnt it funny how this happens on basically the first day of a new government? No explosion, noone harmed, etc?

I thought that earlier, didn't they hold those airport exercises to cover something up a few years back?

Re: London bomb made safe
It can be looked at from both directions... it's a "good" choice for terrorists to choose to get their message across, and it's a good day for bent politicians to stage an event (if that's what you're implying).
I've not read/heard much about this yet, so I'm gonna hold off making any decisions for the moment.

Re: London bomb made safe
It seems a strange time to attempt an attack. I'm not sure how busy London is at that time on a Friday morning but I would have thought Friday/Saturday nights or rush hours would be 'better' times for an attack.
If this was an attempted attack by an Radical Muslim group they also have form for multiple simultaneous attacks and not just a one-off. There is the possibility this was a house-warming to Gordon Brown and thrown together at the last minute but that doesn't ring true to me (for a start the timetable for GB taking over has been known for ages)
My personal feeling is the car was on it's way to join some others before an organised attack in the next week or so and when the driver lost control he did a runner rather than explain why he has several gas canisters and bags of nails in the back seat.
I guess more will become clear when they release CCTV of him and he becomes the most wanted man in Britain. Or more likely the most wanted man in Europe on his way to Pakistan/Afghanistan/Saudi etc. after legging it on Eurostar first thing this morning.
