Loopback Traffic

Hi.
Could someone please explain why i would be getting traffic coming from 127.0.0.1 port 80 to a random TCP port.I shows up in my router log every so often. It even happens when PC is off.
Any help or explanations of what could be causing this traffic would be much appreciated.Thanx

Re: Loopback Traffic

127.0.0.1 is the standard IP address used for a loopback network connection.

This means that if you try to connect to 127.0.0.1, you are immediately looped back to your own machine.

If you telnet, ftp, etc... to 127.0.0.1, you are connected to your own machine.

In other words, 127.0.0.1 is you.

Re: Loopback Traffic

Thank You,but i know what 127.0.0.1 is.
The thing that is bugging me is the fact that nothing on my PC is sending requests to 127.0.0.1 so what are the connections from on my router log???

Re: Loopback Traffic

Sounds like you have some kind of installed program running on that port. Might be one you have installed or it could be a virus, spyware or malware of some kind. Try running a virus scan as well as spyware scans ect and see if it helps.
